Spend several hours here fishing and canoeing the river, spotted several manatee! Very affordable store here with bait and basic fishing supplies, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Would like to camp here in the future and spend more time fishing. You can rent kayaks here too! Had a great time and defenitly plan to be back!
I am absolutely in love with the untamed beauty of Chassahowitzka. We camped here several times and I admit I am never ready to leave. It’s one of the best places to kayak as it has several different creeks running from the Chassahowitzka river. We explored Salt Creek, Potters Creek and also “ the crack”. It was an early chilly November morning when I was startled by a manatee coming up for air right next to me, I also encountered curious otters along the Bank as well as herons, egrets, a hawk and bald eagles. This is natures playground for anyone that loves the outdoors. If you visit, please respect the wildlife and leave no trace behind.
I loved it here! There's a nice boat launch and well kept bathrooms. It's not an outhouse either but full plumbing bathroom. Perfect to change into a swim suit before and back into dry clothes after. While I was here in the winter I had a manatee swim underneath my kayak! So some manatee do find their way up there, however if that's why you're coming you have a slim chance of seeing one. The water is spring water, making it a beautiful clear blue color. Going right up the river about a minute you come to seven sisters springs, where there are natural small caves you can swim through. One is straight forward while the other is more complicated. All in all its a beautiful place to put in and kayak around!
Nice rive had gotten very crowed over the last few years still a nice kayak trip . Long trip if you want to kayak all day and side streams and trail s to find like the crack or the holes. Be the camp grounds are clean and we'll maintained in bathrooms are kept nice most of the time. . there is a hook up area with water and electricity or a wilderness area for tents the is water available near the tent area and gives you the feeling you are far away from civilization even when you are close . The general store has all you could need and people sell firewood if you need it.
Such a perfect little getaway. We arrived after hours on Friday, the office closes at 5pm, but we had called in advance and the grounds manager gave us all the information we needed to get ourselves situated, no problem at all!
Perfect space for the campsite with water and trash cans conveniently located. The main bathrooms were just a short walk away from the primitive camping and their we're other portaloos closer by.
Our canoe paddle was superb!!! We saw beautiful clear blue springs, swimming holes and Manatee families. There was definitely activity going on and others camping, but I didn't feel like it intruded on our space at all.
Everything was wonderful! Thank you.
Shhhh.Don't tell amyone! Fantastic spot to put in kayaks and explore this pristine untouched paradise. Find the crack..not ez to get too up a side creek that fizzles out and you will have to sludge the last 50 yardsbut once there you will have the whole spring to yourself 90 percent of time. Last trip a momma otter and her cub joined me for a swim. Surreal experience. Careful of the gatorfrogs A genetic experiment gone horribly wrong.
We were just there and rented a boat for a day-time paddling trip. Very nice area, friendly staff. The river map the shop provides shows the river during "normal tide". We had some difficulties finding our way (Salt Creek) during low water level - 4 foot lower.
We went to inquire about renting an RV spot for a month. The lady in the office was an absolute DOLL!! so sweet, all of our questions were answered, and you didn't feel like you were putting her out by asking more. Clean facilities, store was clean. Docks and kayak/canoe launches were clean. On the beautiful chasshowitzka river, seven sister spring less than 3-400 feet from the launch. Such a cute place! Loved it. Will be back!! **update**
We went back ,as we live a few counties over, and kayaked the chassahowitzka..it was busy! The boat ramps, beach and kayak loading areas were full of people..BUT there was no agitation, people were not meandering around their vessels, they were loading and pulling out so the next set of folks could get in and get out..PERFECT
We had a great time camping here for the weekend! We had site 62 and our 5 tents fit fine with extra room to spare! The bathrooms, including the out house were clean and easily accessible! The women at the camp store were very knowledgeable and friendly! There is NO swim area at the camp ground and a canoe/kayak is needed to get to the swim area. They only rent the boats until 4pm and we showed up at 4:05 ( their timeclock on wall was fast). Promised to have them back by 530 as the swim area is two minutes away and she would still not rent to us. That was a big disappointment! The river is dark but beautiful! Seven Sister Spring (swim area) is also beautiful but very slippery and rocky. Not ideal for small children. The only thing stopping me from giving this review 5 stars is the swim area setup, there should be one at the campground, or a shuttle to swim area for campers. Overall we had a great time!!! #PartyOfNine #TheChaz #Lot62
Love the river and real out doors, and the friendly people that work there plus the people that visit!!! Wow just a great place it kick back and relax!!
enjoyed my time here especially my time kayaking the river. the spring is amazing and wild life galore! camping with my neighbors so glad we are together but every one is right next to each other when the back half of the campground is empty wondering why they didn't spread ou out more.
It's shallow and rocky so not recommended for a boat novice or someone with a huge boat. The water is clear and beautiful. About 60% year round. Great for swimming, tubing, kyacking and snorkeling. You may see manatees so idle speed please! Don't swim in the brackish water as you get closer to the Gulf because there are lots of alligators residing there. The small bird population will fly up and take food right out of your hand.
Important things to know: if you have a big rig you might have a hard time getting into a back in spot.
Have reservations.
Go to your site and then check in at the boat dock. Or pull off near the campground. You will have a hard time navigating the boat dock in a large rig.
I was mostly happy with this campground. The other campers there when we were were quiet and friendly. The bathroom wasn't perfectly clean but it was clean enough.
Having the boat dock so close is the best part. Parking at the dock is extra so plan on wheeling your boat or unloading and taking your vehicle back to your campsite. It would be nice if they allowed campers to park for free.
