Very disorganized service. Long lines to buy tickets and rent equipment. Our children were enrolled in the kids club. Ski Instructors were very young (15 years old) and inexperienced. At one point, in the day, my husband and I were watching the class and the instructor descended the slope leaving my 6 year old behind and alone. Had to help him down to get to his class. When we complained at the management, we were told there were too many children enrolled and they were overwhelmed. Like that was an excuse. Besides this experience, and generally speaking, it was my children's first time skiing and our family enjoyed the area. There are a few slopes for different abilities so everyone can have fun.

This place has plenty of slopes to spend the day at, they have rentals and a cafe this place is great to bring your kids. Ive been here probably 5 times and loved it every time. I love skiing here but it isnt as good as places like Breckenridge because it has a smaller mountain. Still have a blast everytime.

Very close to Asheville and easy to get to. Snow was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. For East coast /south, not bad for a day trip or a couple days a year.

The staff was Rude Rude and more Rude!!! We have gone there numerous times and enjoyed it. This year it was such a disappointment with how rude the staff was. May need to look for other ski areas for our holiday trips!

Great place to take the family skiing! I taught our 4 boys how to ski here and they have been skiing as far as Utah and still this place is there favorite! Our youngest son is 6 and he started skiing here at age 3! We love this place!

As good as it gets for skiing in the southeast. 800 vertical feet is good. long lines during busy times. you might be waiting in line more than actual skiing if you come during holidays. but it can't be helped because this is the southern most ski resort so everyone south of here will come here. It is very narrow. only 3 lifts for two main routes. Food is typical and expensive. I live 3 hours south and always come here 6-12 times per season.

Cataloochee skiing is great. I believe I have been to every ski slope between Ober Gatlinburg and Snowshoe. I live on the eastern edge of middle Tennessee. Of course each resort has great features, but let me share with you what I think is so unique about Cataloochee. Within the boundaries of my skiing experiences, it is the only resort that allows seniors to have ski lift tickets at no cost. I am too old to enjoy the full-Monty of long black diamond slopes that larger resorts may offer, but too young to stop skiing, and not wealthy enough to cover the combined cost of ski lift tickets and lodging and fuel cost, and food every weekend. (I own my boots and skiis). I have found no location more affordable for seniors, their families and children. The atmosphere in Cataloochee is sweet. Cataloochee staff are friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. really! Ask for help on the chair lifts and they will remember you and accommodate with a smile and a nod. The ski patrol is friendly and the ski instructors seem to do marvels with the children and adults. Maggie Valley lodging varies from luxury to my budget. For all practical purposes, wherever you lodge in Maggie Valley, you will be less than 15 minutes from the resort entrance. Dining costs are typical, but I am the kind of guy that brings a hotplate with me whenever I go on my weekend trips. Don't expect Utah, Colorado, or Nevada slopes, expect a place where you can ski for a period of time, spend time with your family and friends, and not be afraid that your children will get hurt on unmanageable slopes --ditto for seniors and non-seniors. They have several advanced, intermediate, and green slopes that are perfect. Take a look at the trail map so you get an idea of what to expect. Think snow, be in control and happy trails to you.

This is a great area to go skiing or snowboarding. The rental process was very smooth and the prices were very fair. The lessons also were very helpful! The man made snow was a middle compact but nothing detrimental to the experience. The long lines were also handled smoothly and with tact.

Recommended to everyone within 4 hours of here. Better than the average vacation and doesn't cost much more than you would spend doing something else. Gotta get back to Cataloochee!

Great skiing at great prices/ Our Youth group goes each year. Friendly staff. Normally, plenty of snow in mid February for good skiing. We pay about $55 per person group rate for 15 people when skiing on a non-holiday weekday.

There wasn't any natural snow and it was fairly busy when we were there; but the man made snow was top notch and the staff did their best to hustle lines along. If you have the correct expectations about skiing in this part of the country you won't be disappointed. We'll most likely start making the 4 hr trip annually to ski here. I didn't use any of the facilities here, stayed on the slopes all day.

I rented ski equipment and bought lift tickets the night before at the Cataloochee Ski shop in Maggie Valley and would highly recommend doing this.

I visited this place coming from Atlanta ( about a 3 hour drive) around the end of December and loved it. I took my 11 year old brother and we found great beginner to intermediate slopes. Quick service on rentals (took 5 minutes) and the lift lines were quick too. It wasn't too hard to get here either (I drove up in an old coupe) because the roads weren't icy. My only complaint was that there were sometimes patches of just dirt (no snow) in the middle of the slope where people would trip or had to dodge. So they just need more snow really.
