Great historic with many beautiful trails. Liked the goat farm. The house is easy to get too. The walk through the hemlocks is very easy and gives you good views of the house. There are several moderate trails behind the house leading to Glassy Mountain wit good views . The walk around the lake is very beautiful and easy.

So many goats! This place has a bunch of history involving the poet, but the real MVP is his wife who bred some prize winning goats. The location is a dairy farm for goats and has all of it's original structures up. The property is a beautiful walk along a gravel path that will take you past the lake and to the main house. On the back side of the property there are two trails that go to peaks, these trails are a couple miles long.

Very pretty grounds. We loved exploring much of the property and the kids enjoyed petting the goats. We did not get to explore the house or any homes on the property, which was unfortunate. There was some kind of air duct cleaning going on.

I am giving 4 stars only because the house is under renovation until Fall, 2018, and all the furniture has been removed. The fee for the house tour is waived until then and it is still worth touring the house which can only be seen by joining a tour.. Our guide, along with large photos in the rooms helped us imagine what it was like and learn about the Sandburg family. Young children may find the tour tedious, but will love visiting the barn and petting the goats. The grounds are extensive and there are hiking trails, out buildings and the barn so there is lots to see and do. Note: It is a long, steep walk up to the house and Visitor Center.

Definitely a place to visit if you are in the area they just had a litter of goats born a week or so before our trip up, so cute. They were in the process of restoring parts of the house so some areas were empty of items. It was a very scenic place to wander the trails and property! the bathrooms were well maintained and stocked. just remember to leave the way that you came in if you park in the handicap area it has a sensor that will open the gate you don't want to get stuck on a trail head/old exit with very little room to turn around with, like we did the first time we went! We will be back again very soon

So much history and an amazing display of God's creation.
Bring a sturdy, comfortable pair of walking shoes. Be prepared to walk. The Sandburg home offers an amazing opportunity to look into the life of a writer. Not to be overlooked, read up on Mrs Sandburg's work with goats. Rangers and staff here are among the most helpful and pleasant I've come across. If you're up for a bit more strenuous walk, take the time to hike the Glassy Mountain trail. A very well groomed trail, but takes a little time and effort to take on the incline. Well worth the effort, though, for the natural treasures along the way.

I love this place more each time I visit. I met Carl Sandburg as a child so his life has always interested me. A fascinating man and each visit always add something I missed previously. All ages will enjoy.

Peaceful hiking trails. Love the baby goats at the barn, so cute. My kids love coming here. If anyone in your party has a hard time walking, the park offers a more accessible entrance. To call for this service, there is a box in the main parking lot near the map to phone the rangers.

Really fun place to visit for an hour or two. Going inside the house was cool, and it was just a fun little hike around the whole place. Goats were cool, and there were little baby goats too which was cool, but obviously there won't always be those.

This is a great place to visit with goats and going hiking! Just make sure you wear tennis shoes because walking from the parking lot to the goat farm wouldn't be too fun in sandles or flip-flops. They also have water fountains with bottle fill ups and two different bathroom areas which are clean and nice. * They also have signs to mark where the place is and the parking lot.

Great park with some good history and some nice walking trails! You can easily spend an entire day here with the entire family without spending a dime (unless you want a tour of the house). The goat farm was really cute as you can go in and pet all of the very friendly goats. There was also a hiking trail up the mountain to an overlook.

What a fun place to visit and hike! Great staff and neat surprises around the grounds. A garden, apple trees (with ripe apples in July!), good hiking, goats, chickens and flowers. Love it! Look for the root loop on the path up to the house from the visitor parking. Also look for snakes sunning themselves at the bottom of the waterfall.
