My 79 year old mother was here with us to go to the Island. The front cabins have a step up to the sidewalk that is not lit at night and she tripped on the step and fell face first and fracturing both elbows. We reported it to the office and nothing was said about what could they could do to help nor has there been any follow up.
The cabins looked nice, cleanliness was lacking and when they did clean, clean towels and wash cloths were not left to replace what was used. The 'free' WIFI was not working in our cabin and we lacked batteries for our remotes to the televisions.
Definitely will not return and would not recommend.
The free water park and pool were located in a neighboring hotel, and the free breakfast was located down the street in a different hotel 3 flights of stairs up (no elevator close by).
The advertising is a bit misleading for the cabins. What they show you online is not what you get. You're expecting the 2 story cabin that looks like a little house/cabin. When you arrive, you are given keys and you drive behind the cool cabins where the small cabins are. They are very small and in not so good condition. The equivalent of being in a motel. We asked to upgrade to the nicer cabins. This is the reason why I'm giving 3 stars. It was four adults and we were quite comfortable in the larger cabin. Big living area, big tub/shower, etc. We had our own front porch with a plastic patio set. The other thing that was a shock was that breakfast, pool, wifi are at a different hotel they partner with. Do your research before booking. Don't make the mistake I made.
We were informed ahead of time that the pet friendly cabins are small which is true,
but the inside was well maintained and clean. The grounds immediately around the cabin, however, need work. Some untrimmed grass, litter and dirt. And the breakfast is at another hotel and the pool and other amenities are at yet another place. Probably won't return.
I was hesitant to book here because of the low reviews, and now I know why and find myself writing one. Firs, the cabin was shappynot close to the photos of the cabins on their website. Second, they quoted me a $25 dog fee over the phone for two dogs, never sent my confirmation via email, and then wanted to charge me a $50 dollar dog fee when I checked in. The person at the desk would not lower the fee, even though he turned out to be the manager and referenced a scribbled piece of paper as his proof. When I said, "What happened to the customer being right?," he said sometimes they are, but sometimes they aren't. I could go on with the story, but in the end, I would say I have never been treated so poorly. I was furious. We left, and I'll contest the VISA hold charge ( which didn't show any dog charges). We went to the Days Inn, got a better rate, paid a $15 total dog charge, got 2 free drinks, 20% off on our meal, ice for our cooler, a no-charge late check-out, and a fantastic reception desk experience! I recommend boycotting Cabins of Mackinaw.
The "cabin" we stayed in was in need of repair. The bed had a slight incline so that your head was at the bottom of the incline. This could have been due to the bed frame or maybe the structure.
They called our cabin a "two room" and two TV cabin. This was not false, but we initially assumed that would mean two bedrooms. This actually means one bedroom with a queen bed and the living room area also has a queen bed, which is considered the second room. There is also very little room to move throughout as it is clear these rooms were not designed for queen beds. The bathroom is connected to the open area where the second queen bed is.
The breakfast that is included is not in the complex where your hotel is. You must walk across the street to another hotel. The line for breakfast was long as it appears multiple hotels do breakfast at this location. Some of the food was cold and it was definitely not worth a 10 minute wait in line.
The pool and hot tub are outdoors and were nice.
I do not feel that the price we were charged reflects the room we had. If the price had been right for this age and type of room, then we may stay again.
The experience was very nice. Staff was nice and very accommodating. The wireless internet signal is a little weak, but I brought my own DVD player to watch just in case.
The cabin I was in was clean and accommodating. The bathroom looks up to date. No weird scents or smells. The others reviews had me Secure guessing my stay but I was pleasantly surprised. I will return.
This place was a great place to stay the customer service was A+. It was a very nice place to go for our anniversary. I would go back to this place in a heart beat. Only negative would be there Internet but overall a wonderful place to stay.
Our cabin needs a door knob adjustment, a longer shower curtain to keep the floor from getting wet and more damaged, and needs a new toliet paper holder. It would be nice to have a place in the shower to put soap and shampoo.
I wish that I could give a negative star rating to this company. The ABSOLUTE worst experience I have ever had with customer service & a hotel/cabin. Worst experience, period. I had booked a stay with them last summer but was never given a confirmation number, email, check in times, policies, etc. David was extremely polite when talking to me about the cabins on the phone. I told him that he had some negative reviews on social media but he assured me that new management was in place and turning things around. I called in the morning to get info on the cabins, put a hold on a room for a two night stay and then called later that night to confirm & inquire about their policies. When I called that night, "Candy" answered and told me she could not find my reservation. After about five minutes of being place on hold, she miraculously found it. I inquired about dates, options for the stay, check in times, etc. She asked me if I was cancelling my stay because I had inquired about other dates and I told her that I was not cancelling but that I was looking for additional information. That I had not been provided with an email or any sort of confirmation after taking all of MY info. She put me on hold again and when she returned, she told me she had cancelled my stay and charged my card in full. The amount she charged to my card was $587 even though David told me that for the ENTIRE stay {taxes & pet fee included}, the amount was $529. I asked to speak to a manager and she refused to transfer me, then told me he had just stepped out then said that he had left for the day but that he actually was the one that had charged me {even though she said she had charged me}. Is your head spinning yet? I told her I was not cancelling and that I did not approve her to charge my card. I also said that the amount was different than what David had told me. She accused me of lying and started to yell at me telling me that I was wrong. She then said she had tried to help me but that she would be fired and that David charged my card after she BEGGED him not to. Didn't she just tell me David charged my card? She hung up on me so I called the next day to talk to David. He was no help & extremely rude to me. He accused me of lying. Also said that I had cancelled and therefore they could not refund the charge to my card. He said I had agreed on the amount of $587. I was frustrated to tears at this point from the complete runaround. I immediately contacted my card company to file for fraud as he charged my card with NO approval and for an amount I didn't even know about. He cancelled my stay without my permission. They filed a case and when it got to him, he denied everything. He states that he provided me with the cancellation policy & the correct amount that I signed off on everything. He, of course, had my card number to HOLD {not charge} the room. Typically hotels put your CC on file to hold until you stay. I have NEVER had a company charge me ahead of time and for an amount that was NOT clearly stated in a confirmation email. Because of his claim, I was not refunded by my card company and have to further pursue this to be made right. He is a LIAR. I cannot believe how many people he has done this to. His business deserves to be closed and EVERYONE deserves to be refunded for their troubles alone. I have now contacted: VISA, Econo Lodge, Choice Hotels, City of Mackinaw, The Attorney General of Michigan, the BBB of Michigan & the FTC. I am also going to every site that I can think of to make sure people KNOW what kind of person he is & what kind of company he is running. FYI: Econo Lodge & Choice Hotels have nothing to do with his company. They both confirmed this. Please do yourself a favor and do not book your stay with Cabins of Mackinaw. Save yourself the stress, the headache & the money.
Check in is at adjacent property. Staff there were very nice and accommodating. We rented one of the loft cabins and it was clean and stocked when we arrived. While staying house keeping asked if they could clean up and make beds. They offered more clean towels even though we had not used our towels yet. Very nice staff all around. Breakfast is across the street (during the "off season" which is when we stayed). Cable had limited channels, but again, we stayed in the off season and they change their cable plans to save money. Can't say I blame em. We didnt come to watch TV. Highly considering renting out a few cabins for our wedding next year because we loved it here so much!
This was quite possibly the worst experience of my life. Do not waste your money going here at all. The staff was disgustingly rude, the cabins were dirty and smelled disgusting. We booked our cabins a week or two prior, had no problems. When we got there, the very rude receptionist lady said that no one had a room booked for us, but got us a night to stay there. The next day they called us about 5 times telling us to get out by 11, and were extremely rude about it. When my friend's mom called to make sure we were in the right cabins, they told her they had rooms ready for us and that they were waiting. When we called back the same number and talked to the same man, they were telling us that they didn't even know we were coming up. Extremely unorganized, rude, and dirty. If I could give 0 stars I would, this was awful.
