Brown Derby, been going to them over 40+ years, so glad they are in Canto! My Fish was Excellence in motion! My family from Chicago enjoyed it very much!!! Weve been many times my husband and i!!

The service was very friendly and accommodating, the food was great. The "1 lb plus t-bone" special is a great value, and the cut of meat they use is good, but I'd recommend getting it medium rather than medium rare. If you have the dough, I highly recommend the ribeye; it melts like butter in your mouth.

The food was great but our waitress was terrible and our wait to place our order was way too long for the amount of business the place had that night. We sat for over 30 minutes before our waitress took our food order and even then she only checked in once before she brought our food out and after being there 2 hours had to get the hostess to get our ticket to pay the bill. I feel like this was more the waitress choosing favorites and simply assuming that because we weren't dressed for any special occasion that we were just going to order the cheapest thing on the menu and stiff her on the tip which is what annoyed me the most about this whole experience. I could understand if she were genuinely busy but this was more like she was actively ignoring us.
I would go back just because I feel this wasn't a great representation of normal operations and it wasn't due to the food but if it went anywhere near this experience I'd never return.response / report this review -

Salad and bread was good. Everything else was sub par. Ordered my steak medium and it was extremely rare in some spots, wasn't cooked evenly at all. Everything else was ok, nothing to write home about. Waitress wasn't great. Did pretty much the bare minimum, wasn't very friendly. Our second time here and won't be coming back, no wonder there were only 6 cars in the parking lot during dinner time on a Thursday

A little expensive but it's our favorite place to go. The French onion soup is delicious and the steaks are always done perfect and are very thick and juicy. The only thing we've ever gotten that we haven't liked was the lamb special. Their sweet tea is great and service has always been good.
*Edit* the French onion soup has changed and the steaks were not very good this time. Not sure if there's a new manager or a new owner but why did they have to go and change a good thing?response / report this review -

The server was fine & the atmosphere was comfortable, pretty quiet. The best part of the meal however was the rolls & salad. The steak was so bland & dry I only took the rest of it to feed my dog. The ribs were better but the BBQ is tangy, not what I'd expect on my ribs but at least it was edible. Even the lemonade was bad, tasted like slightly flavored water. Like after all the ice melted our server couldn't tell if we got water or lemonade to refill it. All in all I feel we paid like $42 for a salad & some dinner rolls. Could've honestly had a better lunch at the mall food court

Had an extremely hard week followed by a nightmare of finding out after my mom was hospitalized the beginning of the week by the end of this week wed had found out that her brain cancer was spreading. We eat at Brown derby occasionally and also love it there so it was no surprise that my mom when asked what she wanted to eat that night responded with steak from brown derby. I made the order and went in to pick it up being the mess that I already am had not brought my wallet but one of my credit cards that is extremely sensitive every time a bigger purchase goes thru they flag it and hold it for security reasons, so they ran it for it to decline and I knew immediately what was wrong I told the bartender and walked outside to call, which after a while of still sitting trying to rectify it a busser walls out and let's me know it's on the house and to not worry and thank God because it was another 20 mins after I left the restraunt before I got everything fixed but they had no clue how bad things were going and it was so amazing that at that moment someone was thoughtful and unbelievably kind it meant a great deal and my mom was extremely happy which was worth all the trouble to begin with . Thank you so much brown derby and holly I am very grateful . This place has amazing people. I've made a phone call to let them know and now a review to let everyone else know how this visit made the worst day a little easier.

Called to make reservations for a Christmas dinner with our family. Talked with Mr. Girves, Owner and Manager, as we wanted a quiet and pleasant setting. He assured me of how nice it would be. Starting with the fact that we'd be seated in a room in the back. It would be more intimate. The lighting and decor would only add to our experience. I told Mr. Girves, we just didn't want to be seated in a room with 150 to 180 people seated all around us. When we got there and were seated, we were surrounded by 150 or more other diners. There was a half wall between us and the next table was right against ours, on the other side of the half wall. In our "little room" the other tables were so close that the servers couldn't get through. We had 10 persons in our group and it was so loud we could not visit with any one but those sitting next to us. Then, when we asked about putting our coats in the cloak room we were told there is none. We had to sit on our long winter coats. Wow. What a class restaurant. The food for the most part, was acceptable. We all had steaks. The cuts did not compare with other local steak houses. The salad, bread and potato were good. We felt bad for the servers, having to work in such close conditions. In short, I'll choose another steak house in the area unless a call ahead doesn't work. Oh, those other steak houses, from my experience have better steaks at better prices and a place to hang your coat. They just don't accept reservations, they only take call a heads. I rate Brown Derby as one (1) star because you must to be able to post. Oh, I told Mr Girves I'd look for him when I got there because he did such a great job of selling his restaurant to me on the phone. We found little of what he told me to be true.

Absolutely love the atmosphere and staff! The New York strip steak is the way to go! This restaurant is becoming better and better each time I'm there!
