Beautiful place! Just wish it was patrolled by rangers or police around 1-4 am. After a full or semi automatic shots be fired all night next to our campsite I’m not sure I could camp there again. Two nights in a row guns being shot after dark all around us and people were camping everywhere!! Not just an occasional shot but like I said full auto or semi with 50+ rounds! After the shooting people were partying, laughing, revving engines and started shooting again. If you want to go, plan to leave before 11pm and it does get quieter around 5am, but in between you’re in for a frightening night!
Great area for exploring the banks of the Verde river. It is particularly interesting for bird watchers as there is an abundance of different species including a pair of Bald Eagles that spend the winter here each year. You may also catch sight of the herd of wild horses that live in this areajust watch where you step. 😉
