Nice, local, independent bookstore. Good focus on local information and authors. Very tied to their home community. In addition to new, an unusually good used book selection. Great place to browse while waiting for your table at Morningstar, the restaurant next door.
Lots of options, but mostly old and heavily used.
Excellent local bookstore.
Nice local bookstore. Not the cheapest option for new books, but has a lot of used books for good prices
The personal atmosphere, and engaging nature of one of it's new owners, Diane Steggerda, is probable reason for this bookstore giving consideration to independent authors in a time when "self-published" yet carries the stigma of low quality books. Small bookstores have taken a severe hit from Amazon and internet retailers, but places like The Bookman manage to thrive in part due to their understanding of the changes in publishing. They choose to stay ahead of the game by considering and presenting works of the ever expanding ranks of self-published authors. They take a chance on Indies, so please take a chance on The Bookman, an Independent asset to Grand Haven, West Michigan and beyond.
Great little nook!
One of those increasingly rare American enterprises: a high service, high touch,,, and yes, high quality independent retailer. There are two big box book stores within 15 miles of the Bookman, but they do not have anything close to the attitude and spirit of this store. they do not have what I am looking for, they can get in in a few days. I love doing my shopping here, as they have free gift-wrapping service. One other cool thing - they have a reader's club. You get a $10 discount for every $100 you spend.
