Went their for lunch visiting from Iowa. Ordered onion rings for appetizer they were cold. Then brought same rings re-cooked. Mushy middle. The worse meal I have ever had. Grilled chicken sandwich was shoe leather. Two bites. Didn't eat. Someone else from our party ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, she didn't eat it. Others ordered the perch dinner and they thought it was nothing special. Never again!

We've been here twice in two days to sit on the upstairs deck. The bartender, Mike, will tell some goofy jokes and knows the odd lore of the area. The food had been good and very fair portions.

Solid lobster roll and good wine selection. I hear the bisque is pretty great and the chowder is for sure. Great spot to catch the sunset and have a drink on the first or second floor patios. Busy most of the time in the summer, especially on weekends. Good sized rooms can accommodate larger parties but also good for a fun date night.

The food was great, everything was fairly reasonably priced as well. The only thing that wasn't worth the value was the cheese curds, $9 for a very small basket. The lobster roll was huge, the hamburger was well cooked but cheese should come with it. My kids loved thier meals, the hot dog came on a really really tasty bun! I wish the parking situation was a bit better but it's Door County so expected.
I'd say one of the greatest things was when we arrived we were told about a 25 minute wait and we went to walk around to see other shops. I got a text message saying my table was ready. Awesome!response / report this review -

My family and I have been coming up to Door County for 27+ years. We have our regular restaurants we rarely stray away from because we love the service, food, and atmosphere. We always talk about trying something new when we travel up for just random weekends away. This past weekend, we finally decided to try something new and chose The Boathouse. It was a lesson learnedand that's being generous with my words. I really hope the owners/chef/management can get it together because it's such a great location, and when you travel to Door County and spend that kind of money, you have expectations. It tasted like I was eating at an Applebee's. Food was far from homemade or even fresh tasting. Sauce tasted like it was from a bag previously frozen. Lobster bisquewas anything but lobster bisque.
I want places like this to succeed, especially in that location. The owners need to either train the cooking staff better and buy/select QUALITY produce/meat/fish and bring in more experienced chefs to help them, or rehire a new kitchen. The only good part about this place was the wait staff.response / report this review -

From the moment we walked in, the introverted hostess set a tense tone. When we sat, we quickly learned that the menu in the restaurant does not coincide with that online. Luckily our waitress, Ally, was honest and accomodating when she had to share they ran out of mojito ingredients and suggest an alternative entree for my husband's gristly ahi tuna. Quite disappointing as it could be a fun atmosphere with a unique concept in DC.

Staff and service was friendly and wonderful! The gator bites were a fun appetizer to try, very delicious, flavorful, and not as chewy as I had imagined they would be. The gumbo had wonderful flavor, but the shrimp in it was overcooked. The wedge salad is definitely sharable and wonderfully delicious. The lobster ravioli and Cajun pasta with shrimp were both good, but nothing special. The garlic bread it came with had a burnt flavor, despite it looking golden brown. I would definitely come back to the Boathouse again to try lunch, drinks, and appetizers, as they had lots of things I would like to try, but I would not come back for dinner/entrees.

Almost a 2 hour wait. Once we sat down we were told They ran out of food including the menu item I was excited to try. Ordered chips and salsa, they came back and told us they ran out and then gave us another list of food items they ran out of. Took another hour to get out order. I ordered crab legs and my husband ordered surf and turf. Appetizer came out about 25 min after we ordered. It was fried cheese curds. Pretty much the only thing left for an appetizer. The crab was good, the lobster was good, the steak was cold and chewy. The crab is supposedly king crab but they are not very big and they are not cut in half to serve. Manager offered half off appetizer and 1/2 off two drinks. After all said and done we were there for 3 hours 45 min for a dinner for two. We would have just left and went somewhere else, but it would be waiting all over again with the busy weekend. Boathouse should have been prepared and trained. Hopefully they can get it together.

I did not mind the hour wait for a table. I did not mind it taking a while to get our food initially. They told us they were out of chowder when they weren't. They got us our dinner and hour and a half after seating us. My lobster ravioli was clearly under a heat lamp for a while. Our calamari was burnt. My Moscow mule was a summer hummer. Being that it was memorial day weekend, as a service industry worker, I understand mistakes can happen. But how do you run out of lobster tail, chowder (and then not?) Whitefish, and ahi tuna at a place called Boathouse, clearly serving fish? You should expect a busy weekend for memorial day. This was 100% on management and the owners. This was way below average. The band and waitstaff was excellent. Keep them.
