Good ribs. I liked the in house smoked (warm) sauce that they serve. Service was good (Deedee). Food came out fast. The warm water fingerbowl at the end was a nice touch.

Great family style barbecue restaurant. Haven't been there in years but it's been around since my childhood or before and I ain't no spring chicken. Long-time competition between & Shiver's, down towards Homestead. If my memory serves me they were both originally run by Brothers & the fact that they've both been there 50, 60 years or more says a lot for them both!!

Went tonight with a party of 8 including my toddler son and my adult brother with special needs. I'm a server and bartender and know our party can be a little overwhelming and needy but Katie was awesome! She made sure to get my brother's food out first since he was having some anxiety when we arrived. Everything else came out perfect, as well. We love Shorty's and will be back (and will ask for Katie again!)

Just ordered two full racks of baby back ribs. Probably the toughest ribs I’ve even had the displeasure of eating. These ribs were cooked way too fast and we awful. Tough as leather. Cole slaw was good. Fries were fine. Ribs sucked.

I haven't been here in over 30 years. Someone told me that this place was closed or no more. The place and atmosphere hasn't change at all. It was a great time back then to eat here as it is now. I'm glad that this place is still in business. Come early, because the locals know that this is an ideal place to eat ribs, chicken, etc. and it's always packed. You won't be disappointed.

Since my boyfriend and I moved to the Downtown Dadeland area, this has quickly become one of our favorite places for a quick and casual meal. We've even been so lazy that we've ordered the food for delivery even though it's about a 3 minute drive from our apartment!

The seating layout and atmosphere is very casual here. My boyfriend and I sat side by side at one of the bar areas since it was so crowded. Despite the crowd, our service was quick and very friendly. The ribs were amazing! They weren't too tough and they weren't so fall of the bone that they were mushy. Really pleased with the crinkly fries as wellcan't remember the last time I'd had crinkly friesmaybe when I was 5 and my mom made the frozen ones? The ribs were well seasoned and didn't require much in terms of extra saucebut I'm one of those people that prefers to lather their meat in any sauce available.

There's a reason we keep coming back for more! Is definitely recommend this casual BBQ joint for anyone in the area!

SOUTH MIAMI, FL. – One the last American-style, western-theme restaurants in the city, Shorty’s BBQ continues to spice the palates of locals and travelers alike. I had 48-hours left in Miami and I couldn’t leave without tasting that famous homemade BBQ sauce of theirs.

I went cruising down South Dixie Highway at high noon, when I saw their iconic flagship store with its bright red neon lights that read “SHORTY’S.” Just then, I flashed back in time. Edward Louis “Shorty” Allen, who started the business back in 1951 from a barbecue stand, passed away in 2013 at the age of 104 (Woah!) But he left a legacy that it is unique to South Florida and its community.

I parked my car, went in and sat down.

“I’ll have the beef brisket, ma’am – with ice tea” I said. When I tried it was a bit heavy on the pepper seasoning, but overall an excellent choice.

Aside from their nostalgic décor, the true star of the restaurant is their slow cooked baby back ribs with that famous sauce only found at Shorty’s. Other items on the menu include the beef spare ribs, chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, and of course their delicious coleslaw which is always chock full of celery salt which gives it a great tasted and creaminess at the same time. The corn on the cob is sweet, perfectly cooked and drenched in butter – the way it’s meant to be eaten. And a small side or BBQ baked beans makes this dish complete.

Fast service during lunch hour. Food is fresh. Perfect Cole slaw. Quality lean pork. Being a BBQ lover found the meat to be bland not enough seasoning although would order again. Sweet BBQ sauce. I am partial to Memphis style flavors.

Good food at reasonable prices. We live in Wisconsin and Shorty's BBQ has become a family tradition when we visit our son who lives in Miami. The staff is friendly and efficient.
The tables are picnic tables placed end-to-end, but not crowded. There is enough space to be comfortable and feel separate from other groups.
At the end of the meal they bring warm water to clean your fingers.
