So knowing about biosphere will be helpful. It was a grand experiment in sustainable living with what you can create. Air water food and sustain human life. To go back and be able to see the environment that they created is fascinating and amazing. And doable. We thoroughly enjoyed this guided and self guided tour. Very informative. I definitely recommend it. Experiments are ongoing. To see how we can sustain life without the support of the planet we live on. Say, we need to relocate. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. And they really like what they are doing. Go see it. You won't be disappointed!

A truly remarkable experience. We well spent over 3 hours on the guided tour, and then following, in further exploring the internal systems, the science exhibits of various types as well as the project team quarters.

This is a really big, BIG complex, much larger than I expected. One heck of a lot of walking though the park like setting. That said, were ample refreshment, test and bio break stations which made it very pleasant for our party of 7, comprised of 3 generations old and young.

A massive construction accomplishment too, as well as an true engineering marvel. The fact that the Biosphere 2 can maintain 3 distinct climate zones, self contained in such a way such that could have been located on the moon or Mars (a design goal), rather than in the desert, just blows me away. The only other Biosphere that does this is Biosphere 1 which (I learned) is planet Earth.

The giant "lung" in the basement that compensates for changes in air pressure, necessary due to changes in air temperature, was frankly amazing. A must to experience first hand.

BTW, the tour guides are excellent. I asked a ton of questions and all were answered quickly, clearly and in a way that added depth and color to my understanding.

I plan to visit again soon as we ran out of time and so did not go on the history tour.

Absolutely incredible visit. The history behind it, the uniqueness of the structures, and the ongoing scientific efforts combined to make this a fascinating (and yes, educational) experience. Visitor questions could be better answered by students and/or scientists, but the staff members with whom I engaged were still knowledgeable and extremely personable.

Amazing and informative. Encouraging to see serious science focused on preserving our planet and making other worlds habitable. Would have never thought that eating just a little less beef and pork could significantly help reduce CO2 emissions.

Very interesting place, be sure to take the short history tour prior to the regular tour to get a lot of interesting information. The place could use a little updating repairs. The history tour is extra $5. There a cafe on property should you get hungry. Remember, this place is funded theough donations and use and is why it appears to need some repairs.

A must-see attraction near Tucson. I flew into Tucson and drove directly to the Biosphere to hear in person the inspiring 1990s science experiment. Staff at the Biosphere is ready to answer all your questions and share your enthusiasm for this kind of thing.

If you love the earth, science, desert views this is your place. Much more interesting than anticipated. Be warned, unless you are a confirmed desert lover don't go in the heat of summer. Be sure to take water. A lot of the tour is outside and requires quite a hike but well worth it.

I think the tours need more excitement. The story of the people who once lived there was the only interesting aspect. Cool place for college students to learn though!

We visited the Biosphere 2 and had a great visit. It's amazing that they've built an ocean and a rain forest in the middle of the desert. The science blows you away. It's so well thought out. It makes me want to go sign up for science classes at the U of A for a chance to learn there!
I left my water bottle in the car when we visited, I wish I had brought it along. If you take the tour, which I recommend you do, there's a lot of walking. They do have a fantastic cafe, but you won't visit until after the tour.

Biosphere 2 presented me with a beautiful and ingenious look at how the biosphere acts, but in a much smaller scale that is controllable. Everything about it is interesting and is explained, from how it came about to how it works and problems encountered. It was a very educational trip and I would definitely recommend going to anyone interested.

While Biosphere 2 is primarily a research facility, it has been opened to the public as an educational facility and museum. Younger children may not enjoy the information heavy tour through the facility, but anyone with a minimal level of scientific knowledge will be greatly benefited from the information they gain during the tour. The tour experience varies based off of the experience of your tour director, but all guides will have their own experience with the Biosphere. I highly recommended visiting Biosphere 2 if you have any amount of interest in environmental sciences.

This was an amazing undertaking at the time it was built and while that is a great story, what the University of Arizona has done here since taking over has been fantastic! A lot more "science" is going on now and yet, still coinciding with caring for Biosphere 1, our planet! Very good tour guide and loved the "lungs" of the facility. Word of the wise, it is a tropical jungle inside, don't wear a coat! There are many steps up and down. They do warn you about it but some people really struggled. There just isn't room for ramps or elevators. That said, we didn't find it hard, but we have no physical ailments.

Lovely gift shop, clean restrooms and a nice cafe add to the enjoyment.

The Biosphere 2, a scientific masterpiece from the 80's, is by far one of the most interesting places you can visit in Tucson, Arizona. From the history of the experiments attempting to recreate life in a glass dome to the more modern tests being run today - the biosphere has an entire era of environmental research beneath its 6500 windows.
