Great atmosphere, spectacular drinks. Pop-up whiskey tastings T/Th/Sat. Not a broad food selection, but some tasty bar snacks

Hello fellow Bostonian. The backbar has been worshipped for many years now and each time I come, I am baffled by its popularity. The bar is TINY. There's really no picking up on hot strangers here because it's you, your friend, and maybe 7 other people that can fit inside and there's no music and everyone seems really serious. The seats are not particularly charming, with really low tables and your ass sitting all high, trying to pick up your awkward tiny cocktails from square glass tables that are about 1 ft squared in space. Basically if there's two of you, you'd have to shuffle around water glass and beverage. Space is tighter than Tokyo up in here. Conversation might be had but only if you are one of the ten people inside. Otherwise it's full. Also, the drinks are pricey. Though after spending some time in this city, the drinks are average priced, $12 or so. I don't know, visiting here makes me "thirsty" for somewhere else.

The drinks have all been amazing or extremely interesting. I seldom order a drink straight, I usually talk to the server or bartender about what type of alcohol I'm interested in as a base and the flavor combos I might have interest in as well. I've had many off-menu but fantastic drinks that way. The atmosphere is fantastic and it's an amazing place for a date after you've already eaten (they only really have snacks).

Best cocktails north of the Charles. Probably a Top 3 cocktail bar in all of the Boston Metro. Innovative, well-executed, and fun. The space is a little unusual, but the ever-changing props and nice lighting make it welcoming and cozy. It's also completely delightful that there's a rotating milk punch.

The drinks we had were quite good. The space, on the other hand, was quite odd. Maybe it was the lighting. Or The seating layout. Or the weirdly high ceilings. Or the star wars decoration theme.

Also, none of the snacks seemed the least bit appealing. But, they could have been awesome for all I know.

Points for the location and ambience! Service is on par and decent cocktails make it a cozy nook. Crowd was youthful and vibrant even for a Memorial Day wknd.

Good drinks and nice staff. There's something special about giving the bartender an idea of what you want and letting the bartender go at it. When the person mixing your drink takes time to explain to you about what is in your drink and the inspiration for it, that's great service. My only complaint is that the whiskey cocktails tasted watery from over stirring the ice or letting it sit too long.

Recommended to me by a friend and did not exactly live up to the expectation. Sure, the space is really cool (especially with the fun hidden entrance, sorry for the spoilers) but the drinks were quite overpriced and not particularly not worthy. Sure, they looked fancy and probably had a lot of random cool stuff in them but didn't actually taste that good.

Very, very neat venue. Not a place to chill and relax, but a good place to live it up and have some drinks. Super crowded. If you're looking for a party vibe, this is a great place! Music is cranked up, and the design and decoration is very cool!
