one of the best bars in new york
I rate this place a one star because 0 stars is not an option. Worst haircut I ever had. EVER. Even though it was quite some time ago, I still tell the story of how the hair stylist left me looking like PeterPan. Still traumatized from the experience lol. I asked for a shoulder length cut, it was cut to my chin length and then buzz style clippers were used and it wasn't even cut correct for the type of cut they did give me so it could not easily be fixed. Unapologetic staff and VERY unapologetic owner who did nothing to ease the situation and just blamed me. She has however rated her own business 5 stars hahaha. I can't believe this place is still in business. I never write bad reviews and this was not written to bash this establishment but to let others know be careful where you get your hair done, it takes a long time to come back!
Natasha is great! Would not go anywhere else.
Went to get color showed her a picture I couldn't even tell my hair had been colored after a $150 later to hear it will be lighter next time which I assured her it would be because someone else would be doing it.
Go elsewhere and save your money
I went to this so-called "salon" February 25, 2010, for a hair trim and to make an appointment for a perm. First, there is no place to sit comfortably and wait. I was having back problems that day and the only options were to sit on a very high stool, or on a wooden bench covered with a thin cushion. I tried the bench and opted for one of the chairs in the shampoo area that was at least somewhat comfortable. Natasha, my stylist, was not there when I arrived and kept me waiting 20 minutes. (In fact, I had already gotten up to leave when she arrived.) She breezed in wearing stilleto heels, dripping with costume jewelry and was, in general, inappropriately dressed for styling hair. She also had these long talons that scratched my head when she was doing the shampoo. There was also nowhere to hang up coats or sweaters and another stylist who was cutting the hair of a customer asked whose sweater was lying on her work counter and I looked and there was my brand new, cashmere and silk sweater-coat where Natasha had wadded it up and thrown it. However, the haircut and styling was adequate and I decided to go ahead and schedule the perm, but told Natasha I preferred another stylist (there was no way I could take another session of those talons scratching my scalp!) and she made me an appointment with another stylist for April 6. On April 5, I called to confirm my appointment and was told that Avante no longer did perms! Natasha owns the salon and SHE made the appointment. As the owner, she certainly knew the salon would not be doing perms sooner than the day before my scheduled perm. She just did not care, just like she did not care to be on time for my appointment, did not care that my sweater could have ended up with hair all over it, and does not care about anything -- other than her appearance. Take my advise and Stay Away From Avante!!!
