Nice quiet beach. Be ready for steep hill or lots of stairs

Not an ocean as some say in their reviews. It's LAKE Michigan. Beautiful park. Amazing lake views. Super small playground. Wooden walkway. Steps down to the beach.

My favorite view in Milwaukee (well technically Shorewood)
Good exercise, clean, has a nice boardwalk, two park areas (great for kids) and one amazing view.

Wow. So many improvements have been made to this beach. I agree, compared to the beaches north and south, it's the best on the Milwaukee stretch of Lake Michigan. Maybe I lucked out because there was no sludge, and because we had very little rain recently, less sewage has probably been dumped - but the water quality was great, the beach was clean, and the entire experience was wonderful.

Park at top of bluff, beach at bottom, paved path to beach, but no elevator or mechanical assistance for physically challenged. Small playground for children, nice lake lookout point. No pets.

One of the best beaches in Milwaukee! Because you have to walk down the bluff to get to the beach, this area offers stunning views of Lake Michigan and its shoreline. There are 7-8 staircases leading down to the beach, but there is also a handicap-friendly trail.

One of the most beautiful beaches in the mke area. Love it here. Stairs are a great workout as well!

Atwater my absolute favorite place! The beach is clean, it's never too crowded and the views are spectacular. The only downfall is the million stairs you have to climb up to leave, so it's probably best to just stay there :)

A lovely free beach. Clean and scenic. Nice for swimming but there was no life gard on duty if that matters to you. I had a good time and will come back.

Wonderful park, a treasure for the county. The playground up top is perfect, and what a view! Then you go down the winding stairs or path and you're treated to a beautiful stretch of beach and additional playground. Perfect.

A lovely little local gathering place. When the weather is nice, the local kids come out to play with the safe, well designed playground equipment. Also a good place for a walk on the beach, during the months when the stairs are open.

Lake front park with beach access, 2 playgrounds, public restrooms, places to sit and walk and enjoy the view from the bluff or below on the beach or boardwalk. Lifeguards in summer, fire works and festivities on the Fourth of July. Calm and peaceful (deserted) in the winter.

Great little park in the city with awesome view of the lake. The paths down the bluff are well kept and because they are wide, provide a great option for runners to get an intense workout without disturbing others. Great beach area and sitting areas. Lots of birds in spring and summer.

On Lake and Capitol Drive juncture, Atwater Park is a small, pleasant place to enjoy a brief respite, take in beautiful views of Lake Michigan, view a modern sculpture, have a number of lovely camera shot options for formal and informal photos, and give small children a variety of play activities on the kid's playground.
The walk down to Atwater Beach offers very good walking/exercise options including wide, paved, curved path to beach, vertical wooden stairs, and a long boardwalk along the top of the beach. Walk down is fairly steep and can be challenging for some. The great new boardwalk also has sunbathing decks attached, keeping one up, off the sand. Swimming and wading in cold Lake Michigan is enjoyed by many. Old jetties are still present, but are very deteriorated (visual reminders of past.) They have fences and warnings to stay off, but too often this is ignored (dangerous.) There are a few pieces of playground equipment for kids to climb and swing on and whirl about on top of beach and tot lot on the bluff. There are bathroom facilities at the entrance on the top of the bluff (summer only.) Beach entrance closes at 9.
