I’ve visited this restaurant since I was a kid in the 80’s and the food tastes just as good now as it did then. Sandwiches, pasta, and the tostada pizza are highly recommended. The inside is old, unique, and classy. When you walk in, there is a bar to the left, booths on the right, and several tables that line the middle. There is additional seating in the back on the left; perfect if you have a larger party.
The pizza there is awful if you don't order one of their speciality pizzas. I ordered a plain cheese and it was basically like eating a tombstone pizza. What makes their pizzas are the toppings, definitely not the crust. Their crust is like cardboard! Don't eat here if you want to gave a GOOD pizza.
The pasta and salmon dish was excellent. Maybe smoked whitefish as an option. Atmosphere and wait staff did a great job
Great pizza, always have fantastic service there. We love their Nachos, Subs, and obviously the Tostada pizza (although my husband swears by the chicken broccoli). Also their fishbowls are great, my personal favorite is the snake bite. A local favorite and must visit for tourists!
Pizza was great. Service was good. Homemade ranch was so good. Good drink selection. Noisy and busy even on a Wednesday in late September but it was a young environment.
Fantastic pizza last night. We ordered 2, Garlic Chicken and a Tostada pizza.
Quick service with friendly staff.
Reasonable prices.
The ambassador is a must stop icon in Houghton. The best pizza. Don't leave without having a famous fishbowl cocktail (there are many) the restaurant has a full dinner me u and is in an amazing historic building
Great pizza in a historic building with a great view of the water, but service was lacking. The pizza had a tasty crust, and they are generous with the toppings. The garlic bread was also delicious, especially with a side of pizza sauce. Unfortunately, after our food was delivered, we did not see the waitress again. We did not receive refills, and had to eventually go up to the bar to receive our check. Most of the wait staff appeared to be college aged, so maybe our server was relatively new. If in town, and craving pizza, I'd definitely be back, but service could use some improvement.
It was very pretty on the inside. Everything was clean. The pizza was phenomenal and the people there were even better. A great time for a girls/guys night out or even looking for a spot for family dinner.
Great tavern style bar and pizzeria. The pizza is the best in the area and there is rarely a wait. The mural inside the building is a historic monument and worth seeing if you're staying in or around Houghton, MI or even just passing through and want more than a fast food experience. Highly recommend.
Great atmosphere, wonderful views and reasonable prices. The Ambassador has some wonderful 19th century murals of dwarves involved in conviviality! This is a great place for pizza and a beer!
Overpriced, poor service, and uncaring waitstaff. Went when it was not busy and the waitresses were standing around and we had to wait a long time for our food. It was overpriced and had very small servings
All this is 100% true. I went to this place on 3/17/2017 at 8:45. My first and last visit. We were given the wrong pizza. Not a big deal. Mistakes happen. What is atrocious is that I took a piece off and put it on my plate, my daughter took a piece of bacon off the end and ate it. Just then the server came back and informed us she gave us the wrong pizza. She reached over and put the piece I took and put it back with the rest of the pie and carried it back to the kitchen. She set it back on the rack, immediately picked it back up and then delivered it to the table right next to us. We then informed the "manager" who shrugged it off and said what do you want me to do about it. The "manager" then said, in a huff, let's take this outside. We went outside and he started yelling at us, as if I delivered the wrong pie. I have NEVER seen such an unprofessional attitude ever. My daughter will inform all her Tech pals about this place and their unsanitary handling of food. I now wish I told the table next to me I had my hands in their food. Sorry about that table.
