Been my favorite place in Madison for years! Their tap list is always rotating and they put their own special touch on their drinks. You can't go wrong with a bloody or an Alchemy Old Fashioned. Their food menu is going to make just about anyone out there happy. You will be impressed with the preparation and presentation. The taste is even better. Favorites are the houseboat, cocoa buffalo wings and the hanger steak. Oh, and you should get the Alchemy fries but all of the sides are worth a try.

It's so dark in the restaurant you can hardly read the menu. We were seated right in front of the door and blasted with cold air constantly on a 0 degree evening. We asked to move and the hostess said yes, but then put on the dramatics showing how inconvenienced she was. They are cash only and won't split checks. My friend's steak was cooked in some weird sauce which she hated and there was a hair in her mashed potatoes - which were not very tasty either. The service was slow, but the server was friendly. I actually really liked my dish (coconut curry), but I would've liked if the server had checked in before I was finished, so I could have some red pepper or hot sauce. The experience was so bad I decided to give this place 1 star despite liking my meal. I'm writing this during the eternally long wait for our check.

From the outside, you wouldn't think their food would be of the quality that it is. Think fresh ingredients sourced locally!! And their taps switch out weekly- great beer selection!! Staff is friendly and neighborly!

Amazing food at reasonable prices. A little on the small side, but the service and selection more than make up for it. You're gonna have a damn good meal here, so don't worry.

    Cash only!

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I’ve never had a bad meal here. Great wait staff, fast and talented bar staff, and the food is dynamite. If you want a special, go early in the day though; they almost always run out of their best specials early!

Great food, good beers, and their kitchen is open late. It's fairly loud all the time, and when there's live music I find it oppressively loud. But others seem to like it, so maybe I'm just an old man.

A fun, cozy spot for an evening out. Had a double date here and we had a blast! Live music is a huge plus.

Their fish fry is arguably the best that I have ever had. Their limited menu may cause you to shy away, but everything on the menu is delicious. Although the dining area is limited, every evening that I have been there there has been a live band playing.

I gave this place 4 stars even though I actually did not get anything I ordered. Since it was busy and the waitress was new, I didn't want to make too much of a fuss and I'm not a picky eater. I ended up with a Zaremba burger and side salad which were both delicious! The food was good enough that I would definitely try this place again. Side note: they are a check or cash restaurant, no cards.

When I asked the waitress what is good here her answer was "everything". She wasn't lying. The stuffed grilled cheese is amazing. If you're lucky you will come on a day when they serve their hips and salsa. Best ever!

Amazing sweet potato fries! Everything else was bland and eh and there was slow service. We complained to the manager because neither the Kimchi or the Wasabi green beans were the least bit spicy at all.

Perfect for date night gents! The burgers are thick n juicy and full of flavor. Cash only! My wife loved the flank steak. As for me I had the Apple rum burger. Cozy candlelight dinner for two. Great service!

Awesome drinks, food and chicken. Love the staff and atmosphere here. Sometimes there is good live music. Not a pretentious place or a lowlife place either.

Cool Schenk's corner location for good drinks and live music.

I'm usually a craft beer drinker, but, if I'm in the area and in the mood for good cocktails, this is my go-to spot. Not that they don't have a good beer selection — they do — it's that they've also got good cocktails. Their old fashioned is maybe my favorite from the signature cocktail section of the menu, though I'm also always eager to see what the seasonal option is.

I'm never here for a full meal, but the menu looks good, with clearly marked vegan options. I'm a fan of the Maize salad and usually also get an order of their fries — though they're more potato slices than fries.

There's often good music. Seems like I usually get bluegrass, country, or jazz, but their calendar shows more variety than that.

They don't take credit/debit cards, so either bring cash or plan on using the ATM in the bar.
