This place is right around the corner from my apartment. It's a gem in a weird little shopping strip. Really tasty food, great service.

Food was okay. My chicken nachos were decent. But the wait staff
It was one guy while we were there. He was the waiter/bartender and we were a group of 7 so, if it were busy, his lack of attention would be understandable BUT we were the only 7 there. He'd disappear for long periods of time, forget drinks and apps, and, in the end, charged us more for almost every item because the "menu was wrong."
Nope, pal, then that's on you. Don't give 7 people errant menus then

I want to love this place but honestly, I am pissed off every time I leave. I'm almost positive they don't put tequila in their very pricey margaritas. Service is lacking. I don't agree with charging for chips and salsa. Overall, this is over-priced for mediocre food at best. I've tried several times but won't be back.

Loved our Servers. They have plenty of options for kids even without an official kids menu. Upscale but friendly atmosphere. Promptly seeved our food and it was all good.

Dinner tamales were dry and dense.as if they had been frozen. This seems to have become another "used to be good" restaurant. And really. $7.00 for a small plate of chips and salsa is so not worth it. They are making a new menu and hopefully that will be accompanied by changes in the kitchen. Yes, they have an extensive tequila offering.and so do many other Boulder restaurants.

I am a long time, regular customer and simply wanted to show a coworker what the molcajete was like. Menu and business approach is new, and margaritas are awful/extremely overpriced. The molcajete was ok.
It's normally a very special dish, it wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't special this time. I don't drink margs very often, and have only trusted Agave for most of my tequila based beverages for some years now, and not any longer. These 12 dollar "coin" margaritas were not 5 dollars, as the happy hour one we pointed to on our menus suggested, only because we did not know about the rule that "happy hour only exists if you sit upstairs," yet in my experience have not even been presented the option to sit upstairs because it is "reserved for parties.". You could not infer that my gesture towards the happy hour prices at the bottom of the menu, vs overpriced actual prices at the top? You did not think to clarify, or ask anything which would have allowed us to eat upstairs and save 14 dollars on the worst two margaritas that my coworker or I had ever had.
This is just an example of the perpetual plethora of business changes this place forces upon loyal, long time customers. Go once for a molcajete. Even if you went upstairs and got the 5 dollar coin margaritas, you'd not be satisfied if you have ever drinken any coin margarita from any mexican restaurant or agave bar in the world. I swear that margarita was so sour I almost spit it out, and then so sweet, and almost absent of any tequila flavor No wonder the server didn't bother to check my ID, even though (being in a compliance business) I offered wholeheartedly/pulled it out.
I hope you're still smiling, and I hope some sort of actual owner starts to get rid of all these shady managers whom turn this amazing place into such a loose basket of garbage left out in the wind. Your other loyals will not tolerate this much longer and I am out for good. I should not have had to apologize to my coworker for such terrible service and explain my extended history and the inconsistent nature of the reality of this restaurant.
On average one time per two weeks for the last 5.5-6 years, with an average order of a molcajete, appetizers, and potential drink or two (40+ dollars and have always tipped well above 20%) Roughly 1000 net sales per year, and I'm out for good after this past single service. I have trouble paying $7 for a Blue Moon, plus tip. $10 for a margarita, plus tip. Friendly staff though. Great people. Great food. Guacamole is stunning here, not to mention the rest of their food.

Very good food but the second time I went with my gf and her mom and her mom asked for a margarita if it wasn't sour, then the waiter reassured her but it came out sour. When she asked to return it the waiter gave us a really hard time and it was really awkward. Her mom saw the waiter and bartender giving us weird looks so we took the food we ordered to go and didn't eat it there. The waiter definitely ruined our night. You'd expect better service for such an expensive margarita.. The margarita that I ordered was pretty good though.

Went here for lunch, wish I didn't. This is the most white washed Mexican place I have ever been. The food was edible and that was all. I spent $30 on a meal that I honestly wanted to walk away from. Don't waste your money, go somewhere better.

As a frequent patron to Agave we have always loved the menu, food, and wait staff. Over the past 2 months the general manager has been replaced with people who are not very attentive. Also, the menu has been scaled back by removing many of our favorite items. This is a huge disappointment and other people must be noticing as last night (Friday) there were hardly any people in the place. Normally Fridays used to be crazy busy.
I feed sorry for the wait and support staff as this must be hurting their income. I hope the owners are paying attention to this post.response / report this review
