The food was different and it was a unique experience but I feel like everything could have been cleaner
They've always been friendly at my many times eating at Addis. I love the Doro Alcha chicken with the brown Teff sponge bread. The combination dishes are generally the way to go, since (sadly!) the portion size on the individual dishes is quite small. Love the place though.
5th visit. Doro Alcha chicken was great but is still a small portion when ordered solo. That and The vegetarian platter are a good portion for two people. The cottage Cheese appetizer was fantastic! The pureed lentils were amazing but are better ordered not spicy. The tomato salad is phenomenal. The tea is delicious.
My favorites:
Ayib Begomen - Cottage cheese appetizer
Doro Alcha - ginger butter chicken
Vegetarian combo - yellow lentils x2, tikle gomen x2
Vinegar Tomato Salad
It lost a bit from the day in which it was very popular. But there really isn't any reason for its declining business. Family owned and operated, serves great Ethiopian food in very nice settings. Cash only.
I loved this place. Pretty surprised by negative comments. The staff was super nice. I've had Ethiopian food in several U.S. cities, and Addis is delicious.
I'm not well versed in Ethiopian food, but I love spicy, flavors meat and vegetables and Addis can deliver. Waitstaff was really nice and the interior is super eclectic with traditional art and seating arrangements. Only drawback was limited air circulation and it smelly musty - kind of a drag on a hot summer night. But I'll definitely be back!
I always enjoy coming here. I particularly like it with a larger group so we can all share the different dishes. A good team-building place.
Easily one of the most underrated restaurant in Boston. Food is affordable yet Addis Red Sea provides excellent service, and has the traditional form of serving food which was added a lot to the experience.
Environment: The restaurant is great. I really liked all the decorative items and the traditional "tables".
Food: It was quite good. Well cooked and a little spicy but not too much -- even for a person that doesn't like spicy.
Cleanliness: Quite disappointing, especially for a place where you have to eat everything by hand
Overall: A nice experience but I wouldn't go back or recommend it to a friend.
Restaurant is in a great location. Run down inside and has that musty smell. Service is slow and food is average.
My wife and I were in Boston for the weekend a few years ago and wanted to try something new. The hotel staff recommended Addis, and we were happy to give it a try because we've never had Ethiopian food before. Our cab driver happened to be Ethiopian and recommended Doro Wat because I like spicy dishes. The wicker tables and seating were a little different for us because we've never had such a seating experience, but it meant that we were getting an authentic experience. Our dishes came served on a delicious, spongy bread that also served as our utensils. The food was fantastic, and the service was great. Strongly recommended, and we will definitely return the next time we find ourselves in Boston.
First time indulging in Ethiopian food and it was worth it. This place has a beautiful ambience with carpet floor and light Ethiopian music in the background.
It has a huge menu of veggies, chicken, beef, lamb and fish to choose from. They've got a good selection of wines too!
A must visit I would say!
