I think amc has great seats, nice staff, delicious food and drinks. In my opinion, AMC is the best Movie theater out there.
The renovation is nice, seats are comfortable, and clean environment. The screens are big, sound system awesome. The biggest complaint is that the new restrooms are far too small for number of people. They could use some improvement on meal choices, especially healthy options. The prices are compatible with other theaters with reserved seating.
I have seen two movies since the remodel, and the things that disappointed me stems from AMC, not the workers or management (who all were very kind and professional during both visits).
1. All the seats are reclining luxury seats, but they only recline to a set position of 45 degrees. It's less comfortable then other local theatre's whose seats recline all the way. Management stated, before the showing, that this was done by AMC because research showed that 45 degrees was the most comfortable position, but I suspect it was done because it requires less aisle room; therefore allowing more seats to be placed in an auditorium.
2. At both screenings, the downstairs ticket booth was closed (permanently?). Upon entering the theatre there is a counter where you can buy tickets and/or have your tickets redeemed. So even if you bought your ticket in advance you still have to wait in the same line as if you had not purchased your tickets in advance. I can only imagine the line on a busy night if this is a regular thing.
3. AMC has gotten rid of 'Small' sizes. You may buy a Medium bag of Popcorn or a Large; A medium soda, or a Large soda. In both cases, a medium is equivalent to what a Large was 10 years agoit's just to much for one person. Another pet peeve is that the butter is not behind the counter, therefore if you want butter in the middle of your popcorn you have to have the attendant fill the popcorn up halfway, walk over 20 feet to put butter on, and then give the bag back to the attendant who fills up the remaining top half. It's inefficient and I don't understand why a butter dispenser can not be placed behind the counter.
4. I wanted to have a water with my popcorn and my options were a $4 bottle of water or a small 4oz dixie cup that I could fill up. I understand that concessions are the money makers at a theatre, but at least provide a bigger cup for water. I assume smaller cups are given so people don't fill up there free cups with soda, but there must be a reasonable solution to this problem.
5. During both screenings I tried the "Dolby Sound" option. Admittedly the sound was much better than normal (there are over 40 speakers above the audience's head and vibrating chairs), but the ticket was also $5 more: $11 standard vs. $16 Dolby. If you have trouble hearing it is worth it, but if not then I would say forgo the Dolby Screenings.
Otherwise, my experiences were OK, yes half the facility was blocked off and it was a little warm, but I chalk those up to construction woes. As stated above, the two star rating is a reflection of AMC not the employees .
My husband and I purchased tickets online for a showing at the Newport AMC. We got a sitter, paid for parking and since we ordered online the ticket taker scanned my phone upon arrival. He showed us which theater and we then paid a fortune for snacks and drinks. We sat down for an 840pm showing around 815pm. After sitting there and going through all the preview stuff the movie was starting, but a manager came to us and asked to see our tickets because another couple had those seats . I showed him my phone and he rudely said, today is not the 3rd. I was confused because I bought these tickets late the night before so why would their online system sell the wrong tickets. Any way, because at this point we were super embarrassed, we asked to speak to a manager in the hall. He said I am the manager in a rude tone, and escorted us out like we were teenagers who snuck into a movie. I asked him why his ticket taker didn't catch this, because we arrived an hour early and we could have gotten different tickets or saved a huge embarrassment not to mention a lot of time that has now been wasted. He went on to say this actually happens all the time. Um, thats a problem that this theater should fix. So I then asked him to get us different seats for the movie, he said there weren't any, without checking. He said I can give you a refund and vouchers for another time. No thanks, We won't be coming back to any AMC. We told him nights out aren't easy to come by with kids and he just kept saying I know I have a kid, he seemed aggravated and discourteous. When he went to get us a refund the girl at the register looked at him confused and went on to roll her eyes. There were so other many ways he could have handled the situation but instead we left feeling accused and like we had been thrown out of a movie. Also when I asked for his supervisor name and contact he gave me a corner of a torn of piece of paper with a 877 number written on it. Very unprofessional for a large company, business cards with customer concern info and numbers are more appropriate. Not to mention he only refunded us $22 when online you pay fees so I actually was owed $25.72. This all being said I will NEVER go to an AMC theater again, there system fails and they treat you like garbage. "Management" is obviously lacking in customer service training. Also I wish there were an option for a zero star rating, they only received a 1 star because that was my only option.
VERY disappointed. My fiance and I decided to go see a movie last night since we rarely get time off together. The Wilder location was closer and cheaper but because the movie we wanted to see was full, we decided to take a chance with Newport. The price in itself was one issue we had with but the theatre was filthy. The surround sound was a little rough in the one we were in and people would not stop talking or playing on their phones. I know one gentleman went out twice for someone to do something and nothing was ever done. I have been to this theatre less than a handful of times and I will never go back. Each experience was a bad one and it takes a lot for me to get to a point where Im making a google review. You pay way too much for junky seats and trashy theatres. Wilder and Florence both stepped their games up with a movie theatre experience but you would think with Newport being such a popular area, they would step up as well.
Wonderful 🎥 here! Very clean and polished. The seats were accommodating. Comfy enough to catch ones self snoring. The sound was amazing Lighting terrifically perfect.
I always have such a wonderful experience when I visit this location! The staff is always so helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend to a friend.
The facilities could use an update. All others that charge this much have the reclining large comfy seats with a lot of leg room when walking. The paper towel dispensers work 2/5ths of the time. With the amount of traffic, I'd hope they would have the money. But maybe that traffic prohibits them or they feel comfortable with where they're at.
More too come.
The worst place to watch a movie EVER!
* people walking up and down the rows trying to quiet crying children.
* people talking to the screen.
* people talking to each other.
* cramped seating.
* the best part, the warning on the screen prior to the feature starting telling you to locate ypur exits, report suspicious activity and to report unruley behavior.
Ive NEVER, EVER seen that in a family theatre! EVER!
If youre looking for a true classic ghetto exerience try AMC on the Levee.
AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Regal Wilder is A+ and just a few miles away from the Levee.
Went to late showing of Smurfs, staff was very rude, they sold me tickets at 10:55pm, after purchasing tickets. We walked over to concessions and they close @ 11:00 pm. Well we tried to purchase drinks and popcorn but was denied by some young punk because they were trying to shut down concessions which was still technically open. So me, the wife, and our child couldn't even buy soda, popcorn, snowcaps for the movie after they just sold us movie tickets. We literally watched them throw the popcorn away after I tried to purchase some. This was my first experience and will be my last. It is run by Ghetto, and rude staff. Which took no consideration about a family that only wanted to buy soda and popcorn for the movie. On top of that the Movies screen was blurry at times. Terrible Place.
Been going to see movies for the past couple months after 9 pm and no one said anything, easily bought tickets but recently me and my friends were stopped by this old lady who wanted to check our IDs if we were 18 or older and telling us about the stupid curfew that we can't go in to see the movie. We bought tickets from downstairs after 9 and the person working there didn't say anything about being 18 or older anything related to the curfew and gave us the tickets. Put a sign or something so people don't come in and waste their time and money just to find out that they can't go see the movie after 9 pm.
I have never been more disgusted in my life. Midway through the 9:45 p.m. showing of Logan, my wife and I were approached by a security guard who subsequently requested that we follow him outside. After walking outside, we were informed that Kelly the manager was falsely accusing us of filming the movie on our iPhones. I voluntarily proffered over our cell phones to both the security guard and Kelly the manager to demonstrate that she was mistaken. She continued to falsely accuse us of piracy/slander us despite the fact that we had just proven to her that we had done nothing wrong. She then refused to give us a refund for pulling us out of the theater midway through our film. I normally do not waste my time complaining on public forums about receiving bad service, so the fact that I am taking time out of my day to do this means it was really bad. Kelly is an incompetent, disrespectful, pathetic excuse for a manager/employee, and I fully plan on pursuing all remedies available to us both at law or in equity.
Saw Beauty and the Beast with 2 of my daughters tonight. The seats were comfortable and, considering how packed the theatre is for each showing, the place was surprisingly not cruddy.
Men's bathroom on the one side was closed and the women's bathrooms had a long line for the girls.
