  Between 1935 and 1954 a total of seven power generators were build to use the flow of the Waitaki River as a natural source of energy. The generators produced a staggering 105 megawatts.
  
  The scenic lookout offers a great view over the water flowing down the river into the valley. There's a couple of picnic tables and lots of shade from the trees. A small walk leads to the other side of the dam for another breathtaking view. Highly recommended!

  Looking very run down. Tried to go and explore around the public viewing platform but security got very jumpy, even though there was public walkway below the lookout. Good spot to just relax though. Peaceful
