Okay how on earth does this place have such a high rating? The portions are really large but completely flavourless. Been here twice now and both times everyone left dissapointed.

Went on a Sunday evening, the entree of scallops were tastless and I am sure were cooked from frozen. We had steaks as mains, (the price was akin to a top Auckland restaurant), that too was tasteless and the salads nothing to compliment the restaurant on. We decided not to have desert. The staff were pleasant. Shame that it did not have the same atmosphere (and pricing) that I used to enjoy in the 70's when I worked locally, and ate there a lot - never again.
PS . The bread and butter were just how I remembered

the best food i have eaten in my whole life. if i could pick my last meal before i die i would pick this every time. the meat was cooked better than perfection. incredibly helpful staff. amazing service and such a cool restaurant.

Steak and fish were very well cooked, with generous portions, but service was quite poor. A member of our party was spoken to quite rudely by a staff member for needing more time to choose from the menu, and staff refused to give partial value on a voucher we used to pay that more than covered the cost of the meal.

Well guys my first experience was with my wife she had the pork chops for 35 and i the t bone back then they were 40. I consider myself a wellingtonian and read the reviews and got upset. I have told many a people to go to the green parrot for the biggest steak meal in NZ. They have never ever complained and are jealous Wellington has such a place. I base all steak meals i have had to the green parrots t bone steak meal and have never ever have had a meal in the steak range to top it. My meal again was the t bone steak meal and yet again you did not let me down. My meal was 58 but i did get eggs. I knew not to be greedy and get sides but couldn't help myself. I recommend the t bone to everyone if you get sides get ready for a to go box. Thanking the staff great work girls and guys. Guys youve never let me down and im so rapt about that. Absolutely delicious food, huge portion sizes, very friendly staff and always buzzing with locals.

We've dined here many times (if not hundreds) and the consistency of quality mouth watering food, huge portion sizes and great value for money makes it a crowd favorite for birthdays, graduations or just a casual catch up with friends.

Clean, the 1KG steak is huge and tasty but it gets cold while you eat it.

On a busy Thursday night we found a good table with no reservation and the food was wonderful. Generous helpings, nostalgic bread-and-butter on each table and very friendly service. I had kebabs - two large skewers of tender beef and lots of fat chips (naughty treat) and healthy salads. He had bacon and kidneys again with chips and salads - a generous well cooked plateful. Best value for a traditional, no-frills, New Zealand meal in Wellington IMHO!!
