  Went to Schbapps twice. They have large portions which are great for post hikes.
  
  The food is good, but for some reason taking something out of the order and replacing it with regular fries costs extra. This was a dilemma since I don't fare too well with milk or cream.
  
  Schnapps is a pretty regular sports bar with lots of TVs and a large display, if that's your thing. It's located just by the highway with really easy access if you're just passing by.
  
  The view from the place is excellent. Out of the windows you can see Mount Ruapehu in the distance as well as it's friend Ngauruhoe and the third one.

  Last year absolutely amazing service and fed the whole family with food to spare, so we went back this season for takeaways. What a mistake that was! The guy taking the order fobbed us off when we asked about portion sizes to feed our family Which led us to believe that we had ordered enough food. Then when our takeaways arrived it wasn't even enough to feed the kids. Advice: when you're asked questions be honest! Especially when dealing with families! We won't be back. But too be honest I don't think the staff their would care.

  Great place to have some food and a beer after a long day up on the mountain. Friendly staff and yummy food. Couches by the fire are the best!

  Simple food done spectacularly well. The hot chocolates are really good too. Great atmosphere, lovely place, and great food. Family friendly, with a children's menu. We've eaten here a few times now and the food has always been fantastic. It's clean, friendly, warm, welcoming, good service, good value for money, and excellent food. Highly recommend stopping here.

  Great casual feel, warm fires, excellent friendly service. I found that the Duty Manager went the extra mile to help me discover hidden treasures of national park. She provided me detailed information and directions etc to help me get to knowbthe area more. It is my first time to National Park and after this experience i would definitely recommend Schnapps Bar to anyone. I know i will definitely venture back again. Thank you! ☺

  Went to Schnapps Bar a couple of times over the Easter weekend and could only say 'average' at best. Drinks were ok, including the wine on tap but the food was poor. Soup of the day was starchy and tasteless and 'home made' bread was too sweet. Thai beef salad wasn't bad though if a little heavy on the onions. Worst effort was the burger and chips. Burger was a cheap, tasteless and probably frozen effort and chips were soft and non descript. I can make burgers with my eyes closed why can't this 'chef'. Lady in charge was unfriendly and disinterested

  The best anderen priceless food in New Zealand and the friendliest waitress !
  But if you friendly to the people- the people are friendly to you!!
  come into the bar with a "hello" and a smile on Your face- everyone do for you all i think it!

  A perfectly enjoyable pub, with a mixture of friendly and indifferent staff depending on who you get. Food was fine, though nothing special. A round of mini-golf gets you their huge nachos plate for $10.
  
  We particularly liked the giant Connect 4 game in the beer garden.
  
  Note: wifi here is $5 for a pathetic 50MB next door at the hostel lounge you will pay the same for 1GB.

  If you are reading this, please don't go there. Awful service, staff is so rude and unhelpful. Food is mediocre at best!
  And the soup of the moment was totally smoked.
