This place is terrible. Expensive for what it is. Dirty. Washing machine was out of order. Staff came into my room while I was in there. Staff unfriendly, disinterested. Beds totally uncomfortable. Grim. Bleak. Do not recommend.
Good compromise for backpackers. Tourists, go elsewhere! It's so well placed and the only one big common room makes discussions easiest. Not very clean and a lot of humidity issues, but good enough to stay and enjoy the Wellington live
This hostel is basic and old. Paint chipped and really is just a room for the night. WiFi costs.
Social/rec hall is quite lively though so if traveling on your own, there are always friendly people around to chat and have a laugh with.
You get what you pay for
if you want a 5 star resort pay more than $40 a night. It's really cheap, staff were kind and generous, rooms were clean, showers were hot bed was warm and comfy. The reviews are not fair, considering it's the cheapest place in Wellington, it is a perfect place to stay for travelers, near town, cheep, friendly and clean, i will definitely be going back.
Bed room small but clean. The kitchen dirty like the bathroom. Great position. There is no parking
There is nothing nice about this place.
Our room was really small, but at least it was clean.
The staff isn't that nice.
There were so many people and you could definitely see that when you had to use the kitchen that was ALWAYS dirty (same as the dining table) and you couldn't even find the things you needed to use to cook.
You can't see the temperature of any oven or the functions, you just need to hope you won't burn your food. The fridges are so full you can't put anything else inside.
The sofas in the shared room are destroyed (you can see the inside).
The bathrooms in the morning are kinda clean, but then, after few hours they already have a have a terrible smell. Just the showers are nice and the there is a lot of warm water.
You just have 30 minutes of WiFi free and then you need to pay. You also need to pay for the parking space that is so small.
It's also quiet there, but I mean if you just need to sleep there then it's okay. The hostel is really close to the city centre.
Clean and large hostel just a couple blocks away from Cuba St. Friendly staff. Laundry and showers on every floor except the ground floor. Great location and price.
Grim. Staff seemed so uninterested. Kitchen was dirty. As were the showers. Room smelt like piss. We moved to The set up on Dixon as didn't want to stay another night. The set up on Dixon was cheaper and had a tv, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in the room too.
Lots of people living here. So if your living on hostels it might be a good fit. If travelling then if avoid.
Liked the vibe of this place! Many interesting people to meet. Would recommend it for travellers with a not to high standard but who are keen to meet people.
Cheapest hostel that you can stay in Wellington City. The rooms were alright for this price but there was a hallway which really stank like mold. The bathrooms that I went in weren't too good (need to be renovated) but served their purpose and were clean. Kitchen was a little messy but suprisingly well equipped. They also had a big courtyard with wooden furniture. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Thanks!
Very cheap place for reasons. Lived there for three days in 8 bed dorm, we had a shared kitchen and bathroom with another 8 b/d. The beds were very loud whenever sb moved a little it woke you up most of the time. There was food in the fridge that had been there for a few weeks when we arrived. It smelled really bad on the upper floors and there aren't enough facilities on the hallway. What's more is that you can't always lock them. Oh yeah and our door didn't need a key to be opened everybody could go in cheap and bad don't expect too much (or maybe spend a bit more on a twin bedroom).
If I could give this place no stars I would. Needs to be shut down. Not only disgusting but there seems to be no one supervising this hell hole at night. Seems to be treated like some sort of American Frat house bc last night a huge number 80 -100 of "guests" ( not sure if they were all actually staying at the hostel ) were partying outside on the street. Police came at one point so people scattered showing the mess of Cans, Bottles, etc thrown on the ground but as soon as the Police left several of them came back to carry on Partying outside.
Like I said the City needs to get the Owners of this hole to clean it up, take better control of the place or shut it down !!!!
Had a double room booked with a car park for our hire car. Got there to find all car parks full despite ringing to confirm days earlier. Parked on street around corner. Hoping it wont get broken into. A very busy and dirty hostel. Mixed bathrooms disgusting as well as kitchen. All fridges full and overflowing. Only 1 person on reception for such a busy place. She was doing her best and was very polite. Would not stay again.
Contrary to other reviewers I find this place fun. If you are looking for quiet, how about pay for a hotel? Not $20 a night expecting the Hilton
~1km to the city center. Modern showers. Our room had a lot of space. You have a storage room multiple drawers and a table. The beds are squeaky but comfortable. The lodge has a big dining table. However the kitchen is the dirty. Most of the spaces where filled with leftover food. With only three stoves it was hard to cook at times.
