What an amazing find. In the McKenzie basin and no neighbors for miles and miles. Lakestone lodge is an assuming lodge from the outside but just wait till you enter. Mike and Anna are the ultimate hosts welcoming you to their very special place. The views are extraordinary but is as nothing compared with the attention to making sure your stay is comfortable and quiet.
Loads of activities are available including an evening on a hillside star gazing on comfortable hammocks with a warm blanket to keep you warm from the breeze. Bikes are available and there is a great walking/running track right outside that stretches 200+ km from the ocean.
Anna runs the day spa. We each had a 1 hour massage on arrival which was welcome relief after the 2.5 drive up from Queenstown via Wanaka.
The rooms are perfect with crisp linens and a generous sized bathroom. The bath is to die for as are the views from it out to My Cook across lake pukake.
I would strongly recommend having dinner at the lodge. The food preparation and presentation is unequaled in the area. The wine list has a range of locally sourced wines which are excellent. You're welcome to byo (corkage applies which is fair enough).
Breakfasts are simple affairs featuring locally sourced free range eggs done in a range of ways to your liking.
Mike and Anna are happy to share ideas on what to do and see in the local area. However with their views, you could just as easily stay put in the comfortable sitting room whiling away the hours with a good book.
We don't bother rating ho hum when traveling. Lakestone lodge is the ideal base to explore everything the McKenzie basin has to offer and well worth the tariff.
What an amazing place! The lodge is the perfect mix of warm and inviting with all the mod cons. The views are spectacular, the food is to die for and hosts Anna and Mike (and all their lovely staff) are charming. Perfect for a relaxing escape to rest and recharge!
We had a 3 night stay at this amazing Lodge. The photos on line were incredible, but the real thing is just to die for. Anna and Mike are the most friendly and professional people ever and you feel immediately at home as soon as you arrive. The chefs employed here are top notch and we had the best food we have ever tried anywhere. Our room was amazing and the bedding is just so comfortable!! All of this with a gorgeous view out the windows of the beautiful Mt Cook and The very blue Lake Pukaki.
If you want 5 star everything then this is the place!!
Thank you Anna and Mike for sharing your piece of Paradise with us.
Excellent place, view, food and people!
This may well be my favorite hotel in the entire world. Maybe tied with Komandoo Resort in the Maldives. Service was fantastic, dinner was extraordinary, fresh, and the staff friendly and attentive.
Best of all are the rooms, what a view. Every room is magnificently located in Lake Pukaki with stunning views of the lake and Mount Cook. I could have stayed here for a month.
This lodge is amazing!
I truly recommend it to everyone who wants to visit Lake Pukaki.
Hotel's hospitality was just perfect!
The view from each of the rooms is stunning!
The food they serve is super artistic and delicious.
The price is little bit expensive but it is worthy to choose.
I definitely rebook this lodge if I come back again.
Two wonderful nights at Lakestone Lodge. Extraordinary hosts! Very impressed with the eco-friendly environment, and the fact the lodge is 'off the grid'. You won't get views like this elsewhereabsolutely filled my cup!
We have enjoyed a lot staying at Lakestone Lodge. It is an incredible and cosy place, with amazing stunning views. Additionally, the service (including dinner and breakfast) is really nice and high quality. We will always remember our stay at Lakestone lodge.
