We came to Jack Tar on Sunday 22 October and was appalled with the service. I can only describe the dining experience that we received here last night as awful.
We came as a group of about 10 people around 8PM. The restaurant was at about half capacity when we arrived. We were seated by our waiter and made our orders, I was still deciding so made my order, the Red Shed Sliders, about 5-10 minutes after the rest of the group to the same waiter.
My order arrived first and as I continued waiting for the rest of my group to be served, none of the other orders arrived. About 15-20 minutes into waiting we asked a waitress to enquire as to why only my meal was served out of a table of more than 10 people. The waitress told us she would get the manager. We waited another 10 minutes, and still no manager. I asked the waitress again to speak to the manager and only then did the manager come.
What happened next was shocking. The manager came over with the original waiter who served us and they both stood over me as I was seated and insisted that because I had ordered later (to the same waiter) and I had ordered sliders which was faster to make than the other meals (such as the pork bellies and steaks), these other meals took longer to make and therefore this explained why they came out half an hour after my meal. I have never felt so intimidated in an establishment in my life and the interaction I had can only be described as bullying. The manager would not listen to me when I told him that we had asked for all our meals together and it was just common sense not to serve one person in a large group half an hour before everyone else. Considering the same waiter had just taken the groups order 5-10 minutes earlier, I think it should be pretty self explanatory that my order should have been added to the original order. I was essentially eating alone when I had come to the restaurant to enjoy a meal with my friends. The fact that all they did was make excuses for a good 10 minutes was very upsetting. I was eventually (and very reluctantly) offered to have my meal taken off the bill but was not offered an apology. The manager, along with the waiter, continued to place the blame on me even though their reasoning made no sense. The Red Shed Sliders were listed in the Burgers and Sandwiches section of the menu and is a main, another girl ordered a burger and she managed to receive this with the rest of the food.
I found the entire interaction very upsetting as this obviously ruined my night. We were at Jack Tar to show a friend who came from Australia to visit around and I am frankly embarrassed that he was there to witness the customer service we received last night. All the staff did was make excuses and try to intimidate. It was only after another member of my group discussed the matter with the manager, as I was too upset, that I was offered an apology. There is no doubt in my mind that had we had not pointed out that we were unhappy with how the manager handled the situation, I would not have received an apology.
I would not recommend Jack Tar and I would not return again.response / report this review -

Only been three times, but each time has been really good. Nice vibe and hasn't been overcrowded.

Celebrated my birthday here every year love the steaks wish they didn't get rid of the chocolate brownies they had 2 years ago they were amazing.

Took family here for a bite during their overseas visit. The service was friendly and helpful, the food was average. It has a nice view of the bay making it a decent spot for tourist.

Nice gastro pub in a good location. Good food, friendly service. Went here with a group of 8 and had an excellent night. Will definitely be back.

Came here for dinner on Saturday night, place was busy but you can book online so makes it super easy. Food was amazing and service was pretty good. Menu is really diverse so had heaps of options to choose from. Would for sure come back.

Large, on the waterfront, with a wide ranging menu and good drinks list. Service is good and the space is nice. Good for groups. Pizza is average but ok if you don't care about gourmet (I had to add salt to the dull vegetarian offering, which I never do). You can bring your dog of you don't mind eating outside. Pro tip: there's an outdoor area out back too that's a lot less used than the front!

Really nice place for dinner, great atmosphere at night under a clear sky. Staff are always having fun and being friendly, really good service and great food. Burgers are amazing but they have some upscale options too. Cocktails here are great too.

Customer service left something to be desired. The waiter was professional, but it felt like he would rather be somewhere else. The sliders were nothing to write home about. The bread was a bit dry, and meat was just average. Good location though!
