If stepping back into the shoes of the early pioneers is your kind of thing, this camp site is for you. Quaint little original huts with coal/wood ranges and basic facilities. The kitchen area was very adequate with enough room for several teams to cook at once. Plenty of history to be read around the place and you really get the feel of just how hard those old guys were that tried to break in this land. Staff were generous, happy and kind. Be sure to bring playing cards and candles for the huts as they make a great place to settle in with your crew once the power is turned off at 10pm. Sandflies need a mention, as they make you feel pretty popular any minute you step outside

Really cool history behind this place and a quirky campsite, cabins are quite classic and rustically gorgeous. Off the beaten track and worth a visit. Lots of sandflies though

Cool spot with a ton of character and history! Used to be a camp for the workers who built the road to Milford. Closest place outside of Milford Sound to stay. Non-powered campervan sites available last minute. No phone - can book via email tho. Place runs on a generator but has nice hot showers.

Really good campground. Impressive setting between high ridges and along the Hollyford river. Decent communal areas/facilities. Very quaint. Excellent museum. Not to be missed.

A remote place to escape to, this is clean functional and a beautiful place with no phone signal or destructions of moderns life. With the power going off at 10pm you can enjoy a drink with friends round the fire. Worth a visit off the beaten track.

One of my favourite places. Camp sites and very simple cabins - you need to bring your own bedding, cooking things. The bathrooms are communal. There is also a large, modern, cooking and dining area. Friendly, and cheap, and in an amazing location. If you are ok with simple facilities you will find it good value.
