  From Canada, and on a motorbike tour of the north and south islands we were told by many locals that a stop at Curly Tree Whitebait was a must. They were right! So glad we didn't miss this little shop. The whitebait patties were excellent. Having never tried them before our questions were answered, and we learned some very interesting facts, the recipe compared to others was also explained. I'm sorry I don't remember the owners name but we can't say enough good about the Curly Tree Whitebait Company.

  Excellent food. Well worth a stop. Friendly and welcoming. Loved it. No eftpos so bring cash. So worth it.

  If you want to experience the famous whitebait patties from this part of the world, make sure you do it here. We got some lovely conversation, an explanation of the history of whitebait fishing in the region, and the patties done two different ways - traditional and the local special. Can recommend the latter (salt and mint sauce) - it was delicious!

  Making our way to queenstown and came across Curly tree whitebait. Decided to stop in and try our first New Zealand white bait patties best decision we made.. try it with the mint sauce!!
