Great spot to stay in Queenstown. Very personalised service by the owner / operator, Peteray. Fantastic views of Queenstown township and lovely continental breakfast. Short stroll to the centre of town. A business worthy of supporting.

My wife and I loved staying here! Our host, Peter-Ray, was so accommodating and personable to the two of us exhausted travelers. The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, everything in town was walking distance, and the view from our balcony window was incredible, revealing downtown Queenstown and the lake, with a gorgeous view of the Remarkables at any time of day. Breakfast was also consistently tasty. Peter-Ray even went out of his way to run our laundry after normal hours because our luggage got lost in Sydney (and we failed to get it to him before dinner)! We'd highly recommend booking.

What a great place to stay! Peter-Ray is an excellent host who goes out of his way to provide a warm kiwi welcome to his guests, making them feel at home right away. My wife and I were at the end of a few days travelling for her birthday celebrations, and he made a special point of acknowledging her milestone.
The hotel's rooms are large, comfortable, and well-appointed, and the continental breakfast truly is Continental and very worth staying in for. And as we sat and enjoyed it with some other guests there was no pressure for us to move on, even when our conversation accidentally blew past our departure times.
Located just up the road from Skyline Gondolas, Browns is a five-minute walk to downtown Queenstown. Due to road works, the current car parking is a little tight, but under normal circumstances they would be fine. Either way, given the proximity to town, just park the car up and forget about it.
We only had one night at Browns, but we'll be sure to visit again for a longer stay.
Thanks for a memorable experience, Peter-Ray.

My family and I had an amazing stay at the Browns Hotel! The Verona balcony had a stunning view that looked out over the lake. You just park your car at the hotel & everything is within walking distance, 2mins to town and just around the corner to the gondola. The hosts were so nice and helpful. The breakfast was a beautiful European style spread with croissants, meats and cheeses, as well as yogurt. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Peter-Ray and Catherine are very welcoming hosts. It’s a great location and homely accommodation in the heart of Queenstown. Homemade continental breakfast were excellent! A very enjoyable stay.

Had a terrible experience with the owner who was being extremely obnoxious towards us! Booked for a two night stay through the hotel’s website. After we received our booking confirmation, the owner emailed us demanding we pay double the price of the advertised rate. We pointed out to him that this is false advertising which he just became more obnoxious and cancelled our reservation as he obviously realised he was in the wrong and no way out for him. The cancellation did not bother us as there are plenty of beautiful properties in Queenstown and who would want to stay with such a rude host anyway?

After we had this dreadful encounter we jumped on Trip Advisor and filtered on the terrible and poor reviews for this hotel and surprise, surprise these reviewers had the exact same experience as us ranging from false advertising, rude & defensive owner and the list goes on. This did make us laugh as we realised the problem is with this owner and not us and his responses to these reviewers were laughable as well, interesting that any issues were the guests fault and not the host – says a lot doesn’t it! We just feel sorry for these poor people who had to endure an actual stay at this property and we were the lucky ones who got away and can go and spend our money elsewhere with businesses who operate ethically.

Please do read these reviews (and the owners responses!) before you book, because if you do decide to book here and something goes wrong you will end up with a terrible, terrible experience!

My husband and I booked this property for a 2-day stay through the hotel’s website. They advertised a package at a certain price which we booked. We received the booking confirmation detailing our 2 nights and the total cost to be paid for our stay as per the price on their website.

A few days later we received an email from Peter, who I assume is the owner saying that the package is now double the price and we need to understand this to confirm the booking. We went back to him saying that was not the advertised price on their website or the booking confirmation we received. His response: “I’m not arguing with you over this” and he became extremely rude and defensive quoting random figures that weren’t adding up, offering a ‘gesture of goodwill’ because we booked over Easter. We didn’t book over Easter, we booked four weeks after Easter so fail to understand what he was offering except demanding for us to still pay the sudden huge price increase. He clearly doesn’t have a clue what he is talking about, his behaviour was disgusting and businesses like these are an embarrassment for the New Zealand tourism industry.

We have previously stayed at many great Queenstown properties with lovely owners, this is not one of them. Do yourself a favour, take your money elsewhere and you won’t regret it.
