All I can say is I hope the more expensive room options justify their price tag. Because ours did not. The negatives go on and on but I've had no staff interaction since check in. To me this feels like a jumped up hostel. I will not be returning. Hospital/jail cell style room is not trendy its damn weird. The positives of this place are limited but it is a quiet neighbourhood and if you are familiar with the trams it is very easy get in and out of the city centre.

Beware the 1* Star Rooms. They are VERY basic; I had an awful nights sleep due to a small bed, curtains which didn't keep the light out, and being next to a shared bathroom (noisy).

Have a good look at the website and see if this is your "thing" prior to booking. Don't make the mistake I did of assuming HotelTonight means a "normal" room. You might like it.

Hotel management handled my complaint promptly and offered to make sure a future booking would be more to my taste. Given the handy location, I expect Ill take them up on it.

Cool hotel. Good for parking if driving to Amsterdam (€25 per day at hotel or €3 per hour at hotel or on street). They provide cots for babies free of charge and also accept dogs at no additional charge which is rate for Amsterdam. Central station is a good half hour walk away through the docklands but no26 tram is regular and gets you there in a few minutes.

I didn't stay at the hotel but their restaurant area is beautiful! The decor is amazing, the place is relaxed. It's great for a meet up , reading and writing. Also the beer came fast and was good :) pretty expensive though.

This place is nice. Very quirky, great history and just very cool. Rooms were interesting, though we were in the cheaper basement rooms so there was limited natural light, fresh air or views but had a lovely stay regardless. The restaurant was nice, good selection and breakfast was lovely. Would definitely come back again.

The Lloyd is quite unique in my experience. It lies a comfortable 15 minute walk from Amsterdam's central area, or a 5 minute tram ride, nestled into the city's now gentrified passenger port area house in a national monument.
Originally an immigrant hotel it has gone through several incarnations until the design space-cum-hotel it is today.
The staff are very welcoming, especially the cafe staff, and the reception area is big, well lit and well designed.
The hotel bills itself as a "1-4 star hotel". Ie. Some rooms are basic and others range up to the luxurious. Our experience was of a basic double room which betrayed its immigrant hotel origins with its sparse furnishings and open shower. Not that we minded too much, overall it was a good experience.

The location is OK (near the tram stop, only 10/15 min. needed to go to central station). Unfortunately I had greater expectations for a 96e room (the mattresses are way too soft! There's a lot of light in the room because the curtains aren't large enough. The bathroom smelled like pee. No soap in the toilet and neither in the shower, how are you supposed to wash your hands?). The staff was nice though and we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel for the day. Honestly you should lower your prices. Family had a larger room, and it worth the price.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and cultural center close to the central station of Amsterdam. The building has a long and diverse history. Started out as an hotel for emigrants leaving the Netherlands via the Lloyd shipping line, later on it was used as a refugee shelter, a prison and an artistic center. Every hallway, corner and room breathes this history.

The hotel is billed as design hotel, which is more than true. All rooms are different, and have different design styles. The room I stayed in had a distinct industrial look, which for one led to an amusing search for the shower (there was one, and then again, there wasn't 😊)

The hotel has got a more than decent restaurant, which serves very good food for more than reasonable prices.

Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, something which is not common practice ein the Netherlands unfortunately.

Overall, a very pleasant experience, one which I am certain I will be having again soon.

Thank you Lloyd for an amazing experience!

I absolutely loved this hotel! Historic, modern, stylish and distinctive without being fussy or pretentious. The Cultural Embassy is a terrific concept perfectly executeda blend of traditional art exhibits with modern installations and a great place to curl up in cozy, beautiful furniture with one of the many available books you never knew you wanted to readall in a quiet, modern neighborhood with easy access to the city center. The Lloyd Hotel is a truly unique location in a a one-of-a-kind city. The range of amenities mean there's a room for every budget. Choose the one that matches yours and have an unforgettable stay. Trendy converted hotel with excellent transport links to most of Amsterdam's attractions.

Quirky rooms and high end restaurant.

Bike rental was €17 for a day and they are modern and comfortable. Locks are good so you don't have to worry about thefts.

Only disappointment was the wifi, it didn't work and staff were unable to help. We mentioned during checkout but didn't get any compensation so we will get in touch with the manager.
