This camp is a real gem in Northern Nicaragua. Excellent food, great coaches and staff and great vibes. Value for money this place is one of the best. Access to great waves. A week of good vibes.

This was hands down the best vacation of my life. I know this because instead of being so excited to get home and sleep in my own bed, I cried as I hugged everyone goodbye. It was that magical of a week. If you want to learn to surf, I mean really LEARN, Rise Up Surf Camp is your place. And if you are a yogi who wants to learn how to surf, you will cry as you hug everyone goodbye.
What makes this camp so amazing? The staff. I hate that word because they felt life friends. They are so wonderful and do such a great job of making you feel special, like they are doing everything alongside you, for the first time. They are kind, incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and beautiful inside and out. Corina and Phillip have managed somehow to attract the perfect team for their oasis by the sea.
The food. I don't remember the last time I ate this good. And the best thing is that they can cater to your food allergies. I am gluten free and was able to enjoy every single meal without feeling sorry for myself the way I normally have to. Sometimes they just omitted the bread, other times they would use wheat flour substitutes. I was so grateful.
The activities. I'm typically a lazy traveler. Like super lazy. The last time I was in Paris, I spent my time reading in a cafe and people watching. So when I saw how much there was for us to do I thought I was just going to have to push through the days. NO. Not the case. The days are planned so well! You will have enough time to yourself to relax and reboot. As a person who appreciates her mid-day siestas, I was happy about this.
The yoga. I practice yoga, 5-6 times a week when I'm home and so when I was looking for a surf camp that was a must have. I was so happy that I was able to stay committed to my daily practice as it is one of the most important aspects of my life. Holly and Elin were my teachers and they were amazing. Exactly what I needed.
Your surf camp cohort. I am sorry you won't have the opportunity to surf, dine, and dance with my new best friends from this past week. Cause you would have absolutely loved them. In 7 days we went from strangers to family. There wasn't a single person on that trip I couldn't have a great conversation with. Go into your week with an open heart and an open mind and you just might get to sob uncontrollably on your shuttle ride back to Managua airport. ;)
The surfing. Why is this last? Because its the reason you are here and so I'd like to end my review with this. I grew up in a beach town in Southern California. I have known about surf culture my whole life but never thought to give it a try. When I finally did want to learn someone suggested I travel abroad. I found Rise Up, or perhaps Rise Up found me, and I booked with no expectations. I wish I had set expectations because if I had I can tell you they would have been far exceeded. The surf lessons were thoughtful, the instructors were patient and kind, and you at no point felt as if you were on your own in that warm beautiful water. I stood up on the first day! Not for long, but long enough for me to appreciate how awesome my surf guides are. During meals, surfers of all levels would talk about the different things they learned after years being surfers. So it doesn't matter how advanced you are, these guys and gals will help take you to the next level.. I loved the ocean before this trip. Now I'm IN love with the ocean.
If you choose to do the trip to Leon for volcano boarding, ask your guide if you can stop by the grocery store, and pick a few bottles of red for the staff at Rise Up. Wine is harder to get in Aposentillo and it would be a much appreciated gesture for the folks who take such good care of you. Would love to have that become a tradition to help keep them as happy as they keep us!

Amazing place ! La qualité des coach de surf est incroyable. Nous avons adoré Dawson et Oscar! Tout le staff est incroyable. Merci à Charlotte pour les excellents repas. Les cours de yoga de Holly sont vraiment intense. Tout est bien pensé, plaisir assuré, que du bonheur. Merci à toute l’équipe pour votre grand dévouement. I had the most incredible experience at Rise Up! I had never surfed before going, but by the end of my first lesson had stood up and was loving it. Everyone in my class had the same experience! The waves couldn't have been better - no crowds or rocks, gentle waves, and warm temps. There were bigger waves for the more experienced surfers which everyone seemed to enjoy. The yoga was a dream; practice was for 90 minutes or so each day with the ocean crashing right next to you. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. There are snacks available throughout the day but I never needed them as each meal was plenty of food! Overall the staff and service was top notch and I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get away, disconnect, or reconnect. A+!

I went expecting a good fun few days. Laid back, play time. I don’t think I expected to suddenly have this addiction! I know, once a water baby, always a water baby… I could have played in there all day everyday (between eating and a short nap)! My time at Rise up felt like it flew past! The warm welcome, quick acceptance into events and support in all experiences were just part of my experience. The camp is not just building and surfing, it’s filled with some of the most “Chill” folks. Even as I left and others arrived, the embrace from everyone arriving and departing was warm and exciting. It just seems to bring together that “Chill vibe” (Thanks Tom)
I think what I wasn’t expecting was the thrill and challenge to be so satisfying. I know I’m clumsy at the best of times, but even those falls, flips, dumps led into some pretty awesome rides. To the adrenaline and excitement that came with those successful moments pushing me ahead. Wanting to go back out and play! It was this energy, whether from the waves, the sun and the people, the recipe was just perfect!
Then there were the boat trips, the Cerro Negro volcano surfing… and so many other things!
So when that last afternoon and when I pushed myself out a little further, and stood up and held on and just couldn’t stop grinning. The high five from Hugh, the cheers from the audience just made that even better. I still grin remembering the rush… ha ha!
So I send out my gratitude and my love back to all of you at Rise Up Surf Camp, for helping me step forward, move ahead and add a new bounce to my step. Canada is still home now, but Nicaragua… Salinas Grande… have a huge hold on my heart! Thanks so much to Kat, Hugo, Dana, Oscar, Steve, Capitain Ulyses, and the guys and gals who kept things running so smoothly! And to those who were present during my stay, you are such awesome, diverse and cool people, and I am glad to have met you even just for a few days!
