I went last year and LOVED it. My parents even decided to buy a piece of land there to build a house to spend vacations there and so they can eventually retire. We live in Canada now but are from El Salvador and as beautiful as it is, Nicaragua is way safer and they’ve put more effort into preserving their environment. If you get a chance to go to the smaller fishing towns around there I highly recommend it. You can grab a bite to eat, take cheaper surf lessons, and put some money in the local economy. We took a boat tour to see the sunset and it was the most amazing experience especially if you like bird watching. I highly recommend it. It’s not an organized tour, we just asked around. Can’t wait to go back.

We stayed in Hacienda Iguana and had the best time! The accommodations were great! We stayed in condo #A6 right on the beach. One of the Guest Services representatives named Parker really made the trip. He helped coordinate everything we wanted to do and even dropped by to make sure we were being looked after. When we had questions about where to eat, where to shop, surf or go out at night he was always right on with his recommendations. When you stay there, you should look him up. He spends most days in the NSR surf shop and is a great resource.
The food at Anana's was excellent. Authentic Italian, Asian and American dishes made from scratch. We were skeptical about trying the sushi and were completely blown away. We found the food amazing and very affordable. The Beach Club is another great spot for any meal. The breakfast was so good we never went anywhere else. Located right on the beach with great views of the surf. Don Eloy's had surprisingly great wings and pizza.
I cannot say enough about this place. The people are friendly, helpful and seem committed to making sure your stay is unforgettable. It works because we are already looking at when we can go back and we have traveled all over the Caribbean and Central America and this is our favourite.

We had a great time here, and loved the beach side ambiance. The kitchen needs some work - better equipment and nicer plates etc, but overall it was excellent. Ryan is a gem and very helpful, as were the others in their office.

The view from the apartment was fantastic but everything else let it down sadly. We stayed in apartment 9a and this was not at all clean! The furniture was extremely tired and in some cases broken. The air conditioner in the main living room did not work. I understand that other apartments are of better quality but if the management team is charging prices similar to other international locations, then, they should make sure to offer a standard high quality service. This apartment needs a complete update with all the furnitures changed as they can no longer be repaired. Generally, this place is too over rated.

We had a great chef named Marta who was thr sweetest most accommodating and kind woman ever. We had a property manager who was super friendly and easy to contact atound the clock 24/7. The property managers organized for our drivers and pickup/dropoff to anywhere we wanted to go. The whole trip was well organized but lodging was super easy at hacienda iguana. We had a house right on the beach for 10 peiple. The house was beautiful and the view was gorgeous. Loved the hammocks on every level. Loved that we had the option to use air conditioning. Very pleased with the housng. Also not sure if this comes for all homes rented at hacienda iguana, but we had 2 free meals and alcohol included in the price in addition to round trip rides from the airport. Lastly, the reason we came here was because the guy who planned our trip is an avid surfer. Apparently Nicaragua has some epicly good waves! I'm not a surfer, but when i body boarded, the waves seemed good :) Can't wait to come back!

Another great gated community with amazing villas right in front of one of the best surf break of Central America, Playa Colorado. It has a nice golf camp, beach club house and another club house with restaurant and a market.
