Great, but here is why. I did my research and did what every one renting a car in a foreign country should do. First, manitory Mexico insurance, you have to pay for it there, no getting around it. Its $20-25US/day. The car is cheap, like $20 a week. My bill for 10 days, VW jetta was $245us, thats it.
If you go there and do not understand this insurance you will be confused. You book in advance, expect the LDW insurance and you advise them no more. Now, after that you are stupid if you do not video them looking over your car for pre-damage. Look for every single little chip, crack, damage of any kind because you will get charged if you do not. Look under the car, at the plastics, the windows, in the truck etc. The full interior check as well, marks on roof interior, seats, floors. Then check lights, windshield operation, stereo etc. Trust me. And video the whole damn thing. They treated me great, very nice people. From the counter staff to the guy checking for damage, actually better than here at home. Have them give you the total cost before leaving, take a picture of their calculator, there computer screen etc. Record name of people you deal with. $2500 deposit is also manitory so be ready.
After that we had a easy time driving around after the first day of figuring out their rules(what rules). Again, great staff, friendly and for us, hassle free. Your fault if you do not do what I mention above

Scammers, took my Discover Card payment online but when I went to pick up the card, they rejected the card. I was told to use a Visa or American Express card but there would be additional insurance charges including $35 a day, plus a $2,500 usd deposit in case of damages.

I had seen all of the warning about renting cars in Cabo. I have been 2 years and rented cars both times. This last time all of the reviews had me worried. I had reservations at another company and decided not to use them. I tried calling another company and they quoted me around $400 and no telling what they would of charged me after. When we got into SJD we went to the car rental stand and spoke to the girl at Thrifty. She quoted us a price under $200 for the week (mon-mon) with all insurance and fees. I was still skeptical, but we went to get the car and they shuttled us there for free (less than 3 min away).
We get to the counter and I am still worried but the guys seemed so nice, too good to be true right. They confirmed the price said that will be everything and 100% covered on insurance w/ no deductible. I was still worried but we did it anyway.
We brought the car back that next Monday after using the car for the week. It was a small car but perfect for the 4 of us. Brought the car back, same guys there to greet us and inspect the car. They told us it would be the same price as quoted and agreed upon. There were no hidden fees and these guys were great. I will rent from Thrift every time we go there. I was worried for nothing and all of these bad reviews made me almost not rent a car. It is so much better to have a car in Cabo.response / report this review -

Unfortunately I didn't check the review before renting and I feel screwed up even before taking the car! :(
Don't go there even if it's cheaper on internet it's a trap! They do not have the car that you wanted. The cars are white so it's impossible not to be charged for a little scratch which bring you to take their insurance to feel reassured. They scare you, intimate you and are not friendly and customer oriented at all!
I'll post to tell you how it went when we'll come back but even with the insurance I feel that those guys are gonna do whatever they want! Plus it's been more than an hour that we are waiting for our car such a pain when you want to be in vacations :((response / report this review -

What con artists. After booking online they tried to charge us for their excessively expensive insurance (~$90/day). Upon declining they threatened to charge us for “any tiny scratch or dent”. We left and went somewhere else. I’m sure they would’ve tried to rip us off upon returning - it’s impossible to record every single scratch on the car when you pick it up. Not worth the worry. I’ve heard the local car rentals are better so don’t waste your time at Thrifty.

I have never seen something so scandalous in my life! DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE. he tried pulling a scam on us into signing an accident report for a small scratch on a hubcap! We hit nothing and marked the sheet of dents with over 30 marks and missed ONE. When we refused to sign the accident report he told their driver to refuse to take us back to the airport. I am disgusted by this act of thievery. DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE. YOUR MONEY SPEAKS AND THIS ORGANIZATION SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN ANOTHER PENNY.

Scam Alert! Take pictures of every inch of the rental car. When returning the rental car the right front wheel was scratched and there was red paint on the wheel scratch. I don't know how this could have happened since there was no damage to the surrounding area such as the front quarter panel. I arrived tired when renting the car but on my next rental will take pictures. Will never know if it was there or not before the rental because I didn't takes pictures of that area of the car. Don't be taken by these people. Don't trust them and take the pictures.

scammers. They didn't accept the insurance from a third party website plus the expensive full coverage collision and liability we negotiated it to half that amount as the employee checking us in gets commission. We were going to go elsewhere and all of a sudden we were able to negotiate it. SCAMMERs.!
