Wonderful place that really gathers and conjures up the illustrious past of colonial Mexico and Latin America. There are many artifacts on display that show European influence on colonial life in the New World; from every day furniture, paintings and even religious relics made from pure silver. Take your time and relax at the open air court adjacent to the museum and relax with a coffee. The main drawback is that it's missing an audio tour of the museum displays and information in English for the foreign visitors.

A great place to visit, even for American tourists. Small enough that you can get through it in 1-2 hours, but focused enough that you can learn quite a bit about the history of Mexico in the 20th century even if you can't read much Spanish. If you can't, however, it'd be wise to have at least a very basic knowledge of the broad changes in mexican politics over the last hundred years. There is no English curation or exhibit information. The images in the museum speak for themselves, for the most part.

The Franz Mayer museum is my favorite in the city because it has exhibitions of design and quality art: World Press Photo and Biennial Ceramics are the highlights of the year.
It is accessible to all users. Sadly there are no free Sundays, only Tuesdays and only for permanent exhibitions.
Either way, it's a very nice place, they have a central plaza with a fountain, cafeteria service, a very luxurious library where you can request books if you take the credential out of the place (getting it costs 40 pesos).
An excellent place to be at the forefront.

A collection of fine works of art spamming over 300 years! And a dam fine you at that. A must go for 50 peso. I was very surprised I went to 5 or 6 museo while in Mexico city. From painting,furniture, clothes and forged silver and gold. just go!
