Perfect for a quiet vacation, with access to a bustling beach when we wanted it. Excellent food.

    Long post:
My husband and I went on our honeymoon here. Now, neither my husband nor I are snooty people or complainers. We're very positive and understanding people. We are also both native Spanish speakers. Unfortunately, during our recent stay (second time/honeymoon) we experienced a not so delightful experience. While playing volleyball in the "activity pool", my husband cut open his toe because the drainage (which lies at the bottom of the pool) was sticking out. It stands about 1-2 inches higher than the rest of the pool. Now, this was not just any "little boo-boo" cut, his big toe was split in half with bone showing and all and to best describe it looked like a talking shoe and was gushing out blood . The activity goers contacted the front desk, where a manager and another worker came on a golf cart to see what had happened. They looked at the wound and said they couldn't help but would take us to a clinic in one of the near by resorts.
Here is where my disappointment began to incline. These workers, of course are not doctors which I understand, but did not have the decency to offer any help to my husband, who obviously could not control the bleeding without keeping pressure on the foot by holding it with his hands, causing him to therefore not really be able to walk. I, in comparison to him, am very small and had to help him from the pool to a golf cart without any help from anyone around.
On the way to the next resort to see the on site Doctor it began to rain, which again, I understand cannot be controlled. Again once we arrived, the men did not help us to get from the parking spot to the villa where we would see the doctor. We were just told to follow along but to be careful because the rain may make the tiles more slippery.
As we got to the villa the man rang the doorbell to get the doctor and after they spoke privately, a moment or two later he told us to come in and told my husband to sit on the table. I don't know about you, but I think it is comforting when a doctor has good bedside manner, especially in a foreign country or vacation. Unfortunately, this was not the case here. Once he got the debrief of what happened he GRABBED the toe, opened it up to look around at it, and of course my husband began to shout. He told my husband "ya, no pasa nada"- which is similar to "that's enough, you're fine" kind of like when you tell a whining baby that is agitating you to be quiet. He continue to just repeat the word "ya" or "enough" to him while he moaned in pain. Then he threw on some hydrogen peroxide and wrapped it and told him he needed stitches. He had a HORRIBLE attitude. He recommended we go to a private emergency room in playa del Carmen, about 45 mins away.
Of course all of this was happening so fast, and I obviously didn't feel comfortable with him so I (after having to convince him to let me use his wifi) FaceTimed my sister, a doctor in the US to ask for her professional opinion. Once he heard me asking her, he looked at me and said what in English translates to "I'm the doctor here, if you want her advice then you should leave" and he refused to talk to my sister. I try to understand everyone in every position, but this man was truly being unreasonable, and insensitive to our situation. Once we were done with him he walked us out of the villa and we waited in the rain for the man in the golf cart to come back and get us.
We decided we would go to the hospital in our own rental car because he did need stitches but little did we know that the hospital would want to charge us $1,500 USD to just be seen, not treated, just seen.
After a long night, we came back to the hotel, where some of the workers who we had made friends with asked us if we were okay, but no manager would talk to us.
We were not compensated for any of the bills we had to pay that night, nor given a discount or ANYTHING!
It was a horrid ending to what should have been a wonderful trip. Thank you Bahia Principe.

My family and I mentioned that we wanted adjoining rooms. They didn't have any left so instead they up-graded us to a magnificent condo in an area called Quetzal. It had 2 floors, with 2 bedrooms, 2 huge bathrooms with 2 double sized showers, 2 huge closets, one a walk-in that was also a dressing room. The kitchen and living room were amazing. There was a private hot tub outside of the master suit, on a very nice balcony . We needed to get a trolley cart to get anyplace, but it was well worth it! We had a 2 semi-private pools that we used a couple of times. We all loved the food. I am very picky, and often complain about the food. At every meal I was able to find something that I loved. The desserts were excellent a each meal!!! The Canadian night was a bit tough to find something, but we did all found something that we liked. We loved the Mexican restaurant, Tequila, and also enjoyed the 2 Japanese restaurants. One negative was the fact that it was so difficult for us to get reservations in the restaurants. We booked our dinners the first day, and were only able to get 3 reservations, 2 of which were at 10:30at night. It's probably so tough to get reservations because they are all so good! It ended up working out great though, because all of us loved the selections at the buffet too! My husband and 2 sons loved the 24 hour snack bar, especially the ribs and "cheese fingers." They stopped there everyday to get some BEFORE we went to ash up for dinner!
We spent at least one day at each of the different properties. The one that was the most fun was Coba, because there seemed to be non-stop activities. We also tried to spend some time at the beach everyday. There was an awful seaweed problem while we were there, but the staff worked every minute to get rid of it. At the end of the day it was nice to come "home" to calm Sian Ka'an and even better to relax in our beautiful condo, given to us free of charge.
Just about every person that worked there was kind and sincere. They went out of there way to help us, please us, and explain anything we needed help with. I loved the stretching, Zumba, aqua aerobics and archery. I loved the bike riding too, but I wish we were biking longer and could have done without the tour of the fitness place.
The shows at Sian Kaan wre on a small stage, but thoroughly enjoyable. My sons and I particularly liked the fire show and the free casino night. They both won prizes for having so much fake money left!
The ONLY really bad experience was at the Masimo jewelry store in the Sian Ka'an lobby. The merchant talked us into going to the Masimo factory, because I was looking for something specific. He guaranteed me that my family and I could go in, look for what I wanted and leave in 10 minutes if we chose to do so. We got there and told us right from the start that we had to stay for at least and hour and a half and would have to go to the tequila store next door (owned by the jewelry store) before we could get a bus back to our resortThen we had to wait for the bus to come and get us. My sons were looking for something also. They wanted to charge us twice the amount that what we actually paid for the same items on the Bahia property. We went in to all of the other jewelry stores on the property also. The one in Akumal was my favorite because the gentleman who helped us was honest and went out of his way to even drive me to the Hacienda to get me exactly what I wanted, at a discounted price. After wasting our entire morning, they only ha one tiny stone that I was looking for. The merchant in the Masimo store at Sian Ka'an told me there would be at least 60.
All in all, this place was fantastic for all 4 of us. Our ages range from 20 to 53, and there were activities that we all enjoyed. I think my husband enjoyed the pool bars the most and the Mexican champagne shots that we enjoyed so much!
