Overall, we had a good experience, but this resort isn't worthy of a 5 star rating, especially for the cost. It did not look as new as it is. It was much smaller than anticipated. The food was certainly the best part. There was a huge selection and most of it was cooked properly. The buffet had a lot to offer. The smaller restaurants all had great food. I was not happy about their "bait and switch" tactics on the liquor - putting good liquor on display, then pouring cheap liquor that tastes terrible. Our room was mostly good but had a few problems. We had the building closest to the lobby and the noise was ridiculous. Live music music started in the afternoon and went until 11pm every night. And at a volume that made it difficult to talk in the lobby bar without yelling. Then the birds start at 5:30 am, so at best you're going to get 6 hours of sleep. The maintenance problems were abundant and easy to see. For instance, the window next to our bed was 6mm open on the bottom and tight on the top and leaking water badly when it rained. I called to get it fixed, they came and wiped up the water and left, but did not fix the window. Thank God there were not bugs coming in. Or there was the broken slider door lock in another room that they simply put piece of electrical wire through a hasp rather than fixing the lock properly. Or the terrible paint everywhere - like it's too hard to use a drop cloth or tape and they get drips and slips everywhere. It's like the resort was built nice originally, but it's not being maintained properly and just being duct taped, zip tied, and binder twined together temporarily. This is not appropriate for a resort that costs this much. Having to take the trams to the beach was also a big inconvenience that many other resorts don't have. They should have more trams at peak times so we don't have to wait so long. We've been to this area 20+ times and stayed at a few other high end resorts in the area and feel that this is not a great value.

This is a nice resort, but it is small and super far away from the beach. If you are looking for pool entertainment or sand of any kind you will have to take a 20 minute shuttle (includes wait time) to get there. They also refused to seat our group at the buffet. They singled out a 22 year-old girl in our group that had an adult bracelet on (because she's 22) and told us they needed to see her passport. Really?!?!?! Who carries their passport around at the resort?!?! I think they actually tell you not to carry it around. Stay somewhere else and thank me later. Safe travels!

Totally WOW,! I can not put into words how beautiful this resort is. We go away at least 2 times a year, but this place is out of this world. The staff are so friendly and nothing is a problem to them. Even how professional the service is, is amazing. There is everything you can possibly think of. If it wasn't due to upcoming surgery we would of been back again already. But we have booked again for Christmas. I can not think of anything negative about this beautiful place. We will find this place hard to beat. And for you golfers out there this place has an amazing golf course. Hope anyone that books to go here has a beautiful time like myself and my husband did.

Some things were slightly lacking. Such as the snack bar selection and quality. However the other food option of the buffet was amazing. Some of the best food. Room was very clean. Staff was prompt and of the best quality. In summary it is well worth the trip even though snack bar was rough. If you are traveling here book any restaurant you want to try on your first day. You should be allowed to book prior to your trip. In all a great experience.

Not really sure why they promote this as a 5 star hotel, it is a 3.5 star at most. Daily non reservation restaurant was absolutely GROSS. We had to stuff ourselves with food at the pool bar because we consumed alcohol the whole trip. The Brazilian steak house was delicious but you have to make reservations for it. We ended up eating there 2 of the 3 nights because we were tired of eating pizza, wings and fries. && they absolutely cut their alcohol but it seems that’s not uncommon these days at all inclusive resorts. 10 tequila shots later and we didn’t even have the slightest buzz && I’m absolutely not a drinker at all!
Lastly, the room was nice but the bed felt like you were sleeping on a cot & underneath the door wasn’t sealed to the ground so we were constantly killing bugs in the room. We eventually stuffed towels underneath the door which solved the problem.response / report this review -

Perfect location. Its secluded enough to have a quiet time with your partner, and the trolly run every 10 minutes, so you're only a few minutes away from the beach! Amazing vacation. Perfect.

Went to this resort for my anniversary. It was the best choice we could have made to go here. The rooms were very clean. The food was amazing. Such a great selection of food and so many options. As I am a picky eater I found so many options. The buffet was our favorite place to eat. The best restaurant was the Japanese one. The staff are very friendly and kind. I loved this resort for all the nature and animals. It was so luscious in trees and plants. Loved seeing the lizards all over the resort! The beach was clean and free of algea. I loved seeing the fish in the water swimming at your feet.

Very extensive grounds are well kept and almost jungle like. The main lobby is spacious and not over crowded. The buffet is always varied and fresh with everything from all food types. Presentation is nice and service is friendly and efficient. The transportation system to all of the other resort areas and attractions is very good and easy to use. I have no complaints at all and everyone I have dealt with are excellent.

From the brilliant kind and helpful staff to the beauty of the resort itself. I safely say that I absolutely love love LOVE this place! They made my birthday so amazing and treated us so wonderfully. They all made us feel so special. Shout outs to Luis the Manager, Leslee, Ricardo, Andreas, Simone who ran the kick ass entertainment every single day I absolutely love this place and I can't wait to come back, it felt like home only WAY more relaxing :)

Overall, I loved how much there was to do! We never got bored and the resorts were gorgeous.Our room was very spacious and the penthouse rooftop in Sian Ka'an was amazing. Plus you get access to all 4 resorts which makes the experience so much better. Every location is gorgeous as well! I would've gladly given this place 10/10 reviews but unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food. Food is a huge determining factor in where we vacation and I only truly enjoyed about 2/15 meals. Breakfasts and lunch are all buffets for the most part, and they are all ok but I never thought "Wow that's good." As for dinners, go to the steakhouses and hibachi places. Stay away from the gourmet restaurants. There were very few choices and were bland.

Staff is very friendly and courteous- the pool is spacious an in a lovely setting. The entire resort is quite beautiful- but the food leave a lot to be desired. One thing that might not occur to you- don't rush to get to the buffet (especially breakfast) when it opens. It is mostly yesterday's food. I stopped eating sushi, ceviche and anything else raw. Still had days of stomach issues, fortunately only once we got home- but immediately and forcefully.

My husband and I went to The Riviera Maya and stayed here for 5 nights 6 days and we received the best extraordinary service everRamon and Claudia (both servers) at the buffet were exceptional!! The same for the bartender Isaias I highly recommend staying in this resort food is great and not to mention the level of service you receive!!

We have been loyal and recurring guest for 65 times at Bahia Principe Riviera Maya. We do not understand why we are no longer eligible to the plus sides (bottle of champagne, little desserts at night in the room), but we have found out that NEW guests do get these. We don't appreciate the way we were told that we are no longer aloud to have late check outs, or free upgrades (even after 65 times) Apparently its a burden for the Front Desk Manager. the hotel is well booked and we no longer can receive this. We don't understand the reason being. We were hoping to go for our 25th wedding Anniversary this July 2017, but we are sure to not go there. (we are not appreciated and welcomed anymore)

Highly recommend this resort. Accessible entry to the other resorts and beaches is a huge bonus and worth every $ spent. The privacy is well received. The quality of the food buffet is fresh! Way better than the other resorts across the way. Thank you!

My review is consistent with the majority of the other reviews here. The service and attention to detail is incredible. This place runs like a well liked machine. Have met several couples who have visited here multiple times which is a testament so the quality of the facilities here. Would definitely recommend to others and return.
