I usually don't have much time to write reviews but here customers are having way too much time to waist. We waited 2h to get the car and 1h to give back the car.
If you have a reservation with some price, be prepared to pay 5 times that price in mandatory insurance. The car is the most 💩y car they can possibly give you (even if you paid more for intermediate).
Anyway don't go here.
I rented through them for the weekend and it was a terrible experience. I booked straight through europcar website and opted in for bumper to bumper insurance with 0 deductible as I'm aware of the shady tactics they do upon returning the vehicle but they managed to scam me another way.
Upon inspection while returning through vehicle, I was told that the car seat was stained and there will be $130 usd charge to clean it which I found ridiculous. The associate stated that I got inside the vehicle while I was wet which caused the staining which was not true at all. For all I know that stain was probably there from the beginning.
The associate had his name tag hidden and when I asked for his name he gave me a made up name 'Mike'. When I asked him to show me where it says that cleaning fee is $130 usd he said they don't have all the fees written and if I keep asking questions he will charge me $200 instead.
I asked to speak to manager and I was told sarcastically there's no manager on duty and they run the show. He instead charged me $150 usd and forced me to sign it as I was going to miss my flight home.
While leaving I took some photos so that I can write this review and he started threatening me saying he will call police and asked the shuttle driver not to take me and my pregnant wife to the terminal until those photos are deleted.
He then came by me and forced me to pull out my phone and delete the photos then only we were allowed to leave.
Little did he know that photos can be restored from recently deleted. I have filed a dispute the charges also but this whole experience was horrible. AVOID THESE SCAMMERS UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR VACATION RUINED!
I also had a scam/trick experience. I booked a Fox rental, and these guys were their Mexico reps. They're very knowledgeable and actually polite. But their pricing system is a total rip-off. I booked a 5-day rental for $220. I called ahead several times, over several days, using several numbers to avoid this insurance nonsense my friend Han (nee buns) had warned me about. There was no response, even though I confirmed it was the correct number upon arrival and had communicated with Fox prior.
They said my credit card could not cover local insurance guidelines (even though it covers car rentals) because the credit card company doesn't have a local representative to handle claims. They're right and truthfully, the credit card company (WellsFargo) couldn't refute their arguments. However, these guys instead only offered that I either buy their insurance, which would almost double the rental price, or deny insurance and risk it by placing a credit card hold for the value of the car at $28,000. What kind of average Joe has that high a limit on a single card? It's a trick I tell you. All to make you buy their insurance. Out of frustration, 1+ hours later I walked out. I ended up talking to guys on the street. Some of them represent competing rental agencies. I shopped around and eventually got a deal with Hertz, located a block away. They charged $180, provided FULL COVERAGE, and did not require any holds. Two months later and I have no additional/secret charges or fees, so Hertz was much better.
Please keep in mind Spanish is my first language, I'm acquainted with situations like this, I had 2 hours to kill before the rest of my family arrived, and I only had a carry-on while I went from agency to agency on a hot, humid afternoon. I was prepared and expecting something to come up. Most people don't have these luxuries and will ultimately fork over the money to end the headache at the start of a vacation. Don't fall for this tricky company.
DON'T EVER RENT WITH THEM ! This is the worst rental car experience in my whole life. I wish I could put 0 star on google. So I was happy to find a good rental price online on europcar website and i booked. When i picked up the car, they told me, it's eitheir i suscribe to their car insurance, which cost literraly the double of the rental cost, or i had to put a 13k$ deposit (for a basic car). I told them I already had insurance for rental, but they did not care. So finally, i had to subscribed to their insurance. For your information, this rental was supposed to cost me 300$ and it endend up costing 950$. Bonus : they gave me the car with an empty tank.
I personally had a good experience here. I’ve read a lot of bad reviews from people but it may be who they dealt with. I honestly came into this thinking I’d get ripped off or scammed but that didn’t seem to be the case. I had a lady help me check in and she was nice and didn’t seem like she was trying to scam me or make me pay extra for anything. I rented a Chevy Aveo for 6 days (July 24-July 30, 2022) and it costed me $252 USD which was not bad in my opinion. I only wanted something cheap and small and this worked out well. I bought the insurance through Expedia which costed a bit over $50 USD. This insurance would cover the costs of the vehicle if it were damaged or totaled. The catch is that since I bought the insurance through Expedia I had to sign a waiver through Europcar declining to pay for their insurance. By doing this europcar put a hold on my card for the total value of the car which was $13,333 USD in case it was totaled. Now if something did happen and the car was totaled I would have to pay the 13k and then file the claim on Expedia to get reimbursed and who knows how long that would take. Of course I didn’t like having a 13k hold on my card during my vacation, but since the chances of totaling it was so low I didn’t let it get to me too much, and the 13k left my credit card the day after I returned the vehicle. So I paid about $300 to rent a Chevy Aveo for 6 days and then spent some extra on gas. Not too bad. I just warn you to be careful because I’ve heard of other people including the people next to me pay a lot more for their rental. So if you’re paying a lot more than I paid and you bought the Expedia insurance I’d keep questioning them. I hope this helps!
terrible experience. I rented a car at Europcar through Expedia for TD in CANCUN. For 7 days it is 107CAD$. I did not select the 15$ per day protection when I booked the car because my TD first-class travel credit card provide me the same protection. When i picked the car in Cancun airport Europcar, the staff refused to provide me the car that I booked and tried to pursuda me to buy USD287$ insurance at the desk, otherwise, I can not get the car. I asked to cancel the reservation and was told I would not be refunded. I explained to them my credit card provides the protection and showed them the credit card policy, The Europcar staff still refused to give me the car I bookedand paid. Finally I paid USD287$ for the insurrance , however the Expedia online car protection price is only 15 CAD per day. I get 3/4 gas when I got the car. Will never get back to Europcar.
BEWARE! Rented a car online thru an agency. paid extra for insurance that covers me for double the amount of the car. When I arrived to rent the car they informed me that my insurance was not good because they do not accept any other insurance except their own which is 3 times more expensive and does not cover the complete cost of the car. I learned my lesson. rent from reputable companies that accept insurance as long as you are covered. I ended up without a car that I already paid for. BEWARE! rent at your own risk! Shady business practices!
This place is a big time SCAM!!!! I rented a car for 6 days when i returned they said the front plates is missing n charged my credit card $169.69USD!!! I told them i don't have a clue about missing front plates and im not sure there was even 2 plates on the car when they initially gave it to me. They state that's not their problem n It's my responsibility to ensure that. It's a scam they are running most of their renters are foreigners n last things we are concerned with is the amount of plates on a car when we are renting it so they take of the front plates n charge you an insane fee when you return the carThey also charge a ridiculous daily insurance rate!!! The insurances fees will cost wayyyy more than your total rental cost!!! I paid $150 for rental insurance for 6days and i bargain them down to that priceSTAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS BUNCH OF SCAMMERS!!!!
Come here if you want to experience the worst customer service ever! Everyone seem to be so tired and hating their job. I was here for TWO hours, with my family, midnight, waiting for a car which by the way they just offered me at the airport!! Then a bald guy just told me they lost the keys from the parking lot where the car was, "nothing to do for me, sorry, goodbye, I don't give a f if you've been waiting here so long, step out of the line" Then I walked a few steps to Thrifty and got a car for the same rate and a better insurance package in just 15 minutes.
They kept 600€ for a lost key because they didnt have another one (so they rent a car with no duplicate key). On the contract it is written that if you loose a key they will bring you another one, but they just told me that they dont care and just go away.. worst rent ever !!!
Paid in advanced with Expedia. When I went there Edgar told me it was going to cost $350 for an economy car. I went to another agency n found better service and much cheaper - about half the price. Expedia refunded me the money because indeed we were not supposed to pay anything else.
The car itself was great , as throughout Mexico , you get gouged on rrquired insurance .. the personnel were also fairly dishonest and attempted to forcemore gasoline charges which I see a SCAm . Overall B- e oerience .
Beware! I booked online, paid up front for the rental and for additional insurance, and at the counter I was charged an ADDITIONAL $50/DAY for insurance! (All on TOP of the insurance I already have from my own car's policy and the credit card's coverage). This ended up being the most expensive car rental I have paid for in any country in the world, for a Chevy Aveo with zero options.
On top of that the pick up and check in service is incredibly slow, it took me an hour to get the car and over a half hour to return it. Definitely never coming back.
If I was able to give no stars I would! Worst experience ever! Paid dirt cheap and in full online yet attempt to screw you with extra extra rental insurance and deposit! Walked out and never returnedpretty embarrassing if their shuttle driver recommends another rental place. Don't waste your time, you will wait forever and overcharge you.
You're in Mexico. Renting a car here takes longer than in the US, no matter who you rent from. Plan for it. When you drop it off, you can't just drop the keys and roll out. You do have to wait, just like all the other car rental places in MX. I agree, not time efficient. But plan for it because that's the way it is. As far as the car and service. I have no complaints. Prices are negotiable depending on how busy it is but generally affordable.
