WONDERFUL PLACE. Snorkeling in the bay to do turtle watching is free! Don't let locals scam you saying it's mandatory to have a guide and/or lifesaving vest

The worst experience ever. After being forced to pay the mandatory parking fees (50$), you'll have to pass by a private hotel property and walk through restaurants to reach that overcrowded beach with no locals at all!
Wasn't even able to have a lunch before 11:30am, the restaurant was reserved to guests.

Beautiful beach! There are only a few beach side drinking and dining options (Lol Ha highly rated) so bring a picnic, beach chairs and snorkle gear if you have it. You'll need a life jacket to snorkle past 50 ft in the water, but you can rent gear from about $10 USD from either of the diving centers. The town has many restaurants, and an oxxo if you'd like to enjoy a beer on the beach. Come prepared, have an amazing day!

After a bad experience in Playa del Carmen, I've vowed never to go back to Mexico. But if someone said "we're going straight to Akumal," I'd go. Akumal is perfect for those who remember how Playa del Carmen was before it became "Little Cancun." Quiet, beautiful, peaceful, gorgeous-- and no one is going to try to rip you off here (except the salesmen at the silver shop).
