April is probably not the best month to visit the gardens as not many things are in flower but we did enjoy our trip. The gardens have a great variety of trees and plants and are very attractive to walk around. One should get there early to avoid the rush.
90 minutes to 2 hours is more than enough time to get round the gardens. Not a good idea to sit or stand still for too long as the mosquitos will give you a few souvenirs. One thing that I think is pretty bad is the advert saying that a guide costs 50 Rupees per person for 1-4 people. This is not the case. We started walking with a guide and he then told us that it would be 400 Rupees each. They do not want to work unless they have big groups to guide. It's pretty disgusting. Sure.. charge 400 but don't then advertise that it is 50. See one of my pictures for the price list. Worth a visit but don't get ripped off.

Nice botanical garden. Spent a two hours exploring an exotic fauna and flora.I heard it is the oldest botanical garden in the southern hemisphere.
85 types of palm trees, from bottle palms, royal palms to the talipot palm which blooms every 40 years or so and then dies ponds filled with giant water lilies and abundant bird life. Cinnamon tree, camphor, nutmeg, clove trees
The Mauritius botanical garden is about 10 km North East of Port Louis and a 15 minute drive from the North coast.

This is a cheap day out, 200 rupees entrance fee. However, the guides are not linked to the gardens and work for themselves. The rate is 50 rupees per person for a guide. This means that they will often refuse to guide you if they think your group is not big enough or that you will not tip well. A fellow traveller also was intimidated into giving a bigger tip.

The gardens themselves are fun to explore and easy to get to by bus or taxi. The lotus pools and Amazon lilies are great and many of the trees and plants are labelled. There are lots of sheltered places in case it rains or you want to rest and there are toilets at various points throughout the gardens.
Some parts of the gardens look a little shabby and unfortunately there is rubbish I some of the pools and streams. There is no where to buy food or drink in the gardens themselves but plenty if street vendors outside along with a taxi cab rank. The bus stop is a few minutes walk away.

Take a leisurely evening stroll through the lush green gardens. Don't forget your mosquito repellent cream or spray. You will need at least an hour to walk through it. Also, no restaurant or cafe inside the garden. Carry water or any other drink with you. Entry fee is Rs.25/- for residents and Rs.200/- for tourists (if I am not wrong)

Very beautiful place for a tree lover. Lots of oxygen in the air ! :) Take the guided tour and you will understand various types and qualities of trees ranging from rubber to spices! They have clove trees in there :)

Absolutely lovely place. A must visit if you're with family. If you can, take the golf cart and ask for Raja, who is probably the more fun than the beautiful park itself.

Very beautiful botanic garden with lots of tropical and subtropical plants. Friendly guides are available at the entrance but you can also just stoll around on your own.

Stunning gardens. I can see why these are called the 3rd most beautiful gardens in the world. Very well looked after and easy to walk around. You may be offered a guide buy it's just as nice to have a walk and use the sign maps to look around. The gardens are beautiful in their own right but they are added to by water and various lily pad ponds - particularly the giant lily pad pond. The tortoises are fun to see too! I would say this takes around 1hr 30mins to walk around depending on how much you want to know about the plants and trees.

Very nice garden with a wide variety of plant species.
Peaceful spots to relax under the shade of a kiosk. If you are lucky enough, you might spot migrating birds feeding on fish in one of the ponds of the garden live

If you are bored of beaches and mountains and looking a break with family ,Then make it to this lovely place ,the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere.
The long pond of giant water lilies and trees ( not all )planted by world leaders .(Only If needed to know more hire a guide).Like to be here again

Very nice natural garden with over 200 species of palms and many other species of flowers and trees.
Main attraction - a beautiful red colored flower which grows once in 100 years.

***SCAM ALERT*** google will take you to the front gates. There is a tiny sign that reads "free parking 300m to the left." Conveniently there is a guy standing in front of this small sign where he will direct you to an alley way to park and charge you 300 mr. Ignore him and proceeded to the left. The parking lot is at the exit so you have to walk thought it anyway. Other than that, it is beautiful.

The garden in all does not have special. Its big with few ponds and flowers in them. I wouldn't call it a must visit place. However they have Sir Seewosagur's memorial you can visit. It has two captivities of deer and tortoises which anyways you'll find in abundance in Mauritius.
The entrance ticket for only these stuffs is costly i felt.

Very nice gardens if you are botanically inclined. Must see for Lilly pads and lotus. Boabab tree is nice too. Winter weather made is very interesting for us.

One of the best experience in the island if you love nature and you want to discover more of the Mauritius island. Take a private guide for just 400 MUR (they don't have a salary, they get just the money from the visitors), you will not regret it. We had a talk with the guide about plants but even about Mauritius history: one of the best encounter in our holidays.

Worthwhile visiting. I can recommend that you pay the extra money and rend a gold cart that comes with a driver/guide. They show you everything you might miss let you smell the herb type plants and tell you the names of the plants + explain why it is called that way. Awesome experience.

Beautiful although I thought it was a little unkept for their national botanical garden. Loved the huge lilly pads and the enormous tortoise. Never seen any that big!!

Nice and beautiful place for a walk or to take some pretty pictures. Tortoise exhibit is ok with about 10 giants there. There are signs everywhere telling people to pick up their trash but it didn't seem to be working as there were plastic cups and paper plates on the ground everywhere
