The highest peak in Mauritius and at the same time probably the easiest to climb. If you can't find a parking right at the entrance (which bears not a lot of space for parking) just go on about 300m inlands along the road to the Gorges Viewpoint. Here is enough parking available.
As said the trail is quite easy, only when it rained or has rained a lot it can be very deep and muddy. Be prepared to dive your feet ankle deep or bit more in the mud.
In about 1.5 hrs you can be on the peak. Only the end of the trail up to the peak is to be done on all fours and can be, owing to the loose soil, a bit slippery. But the view is amazing.
Between April and July you might find some guavas along the way, a nice vitamin reward. Also bringing along an ice cold Blue Marlin is an amazing reward after the hike.
If you like to have it more difficult and want to go the whole nine yards (828m), then start from the bottom of the valley in the Gorges (drive to the Visitor Center parking down in the valley). Check on wikilogs for a route because there are no signs put up for this route. I saw a route which went further than the peak along the Black River Ridge Trail down to Cascavelle. Maybe you can tell your driver to wait there if you want to conquer it. But be prepared for a hard trail.response / report this review -
