I was spending 3 nights at Shwe Yo hostel during water festival holidays and had a good time in Yangon!
The family owned hostel is a great place to be: Best location, very nice and helpful family and staff that speak good English and help you a lot with travel planning, things to do around Yangon and prepare the most delicious (vegetarian) food I had so far in Myanmar :)
Although many sightseeing places and restaurants were closed during the water festival, it never got boring at the hostel because we went on a free walking tour, exchanged experiences about Myanmar & travels and could try out some special Burmese deserts that the family prepared at the hostel.
The place is clean and good for socializing with other travelers, I am more than happy with my stay and can totally recommend it!!! :)

Fantastic hostel! Staff are super attentive and helpful! The food there is delicious, we ate breakfast and lunch there everyday and it was better than anywhere else (we even ate at expensive restaurants). Only issue was private room on the ground floor was a bit noisy. Showers are good and hot and room had air conditioning. They picked us up from the airport and it was overall an excellent experience.

Delicious breakfast! Staff is very helpful for booking things like buses and communicated with your taxi driver when you only speak English. Very clean plus comfortable beds with curtains and plugs!!

We stayed there last year and it was the best hostel/hotel experience in Myanmar! It’s very clean and people working there were so helpful and friendly! They also have delicious traditional breakfast!

Very cozy and warm atmosphere. The family that runs it is super nice and helpful. Very nice for experiencing local and traditional food. Strong WiFi, laundry service and currency exchange with good rate. Everyday they organize a free or cheap activity that you can do as the locals do. I'd definitely go back again!

    10/10 recommend!!
Travelled as a couple, absolutely loved our stay at Shwe Yo Vintage Hostel. Right when we arrived, the hostel was having a little mooncake festival celebration - free mooncakes & snacks! A really nice touch from the people running the hostel :) Room was spacious - although it was a 10 bed dorm, it never felt cramped at all. Very clean and comfortable beds. Bathrooms were clean as well, sufficient for number of guests in the hostel. Free daily breakfast was AMAZING. Loved it!

This is the best place we could've arrived to after an exhausting flight. The breakfast is freshly prepared authentic Myanmar cuisine and was delicious during our stay. The hostel offers daily activities you can sign up for like going to the market together, how to use thanaka and so on. The managers helped us to get fair taxi fares and as we arrived pretty clueless discussed various itineraries. We met great people here and the vibe of the whole place just made us feel like having a home in Yangon. Especially when I got sick they gave me medicine and looked after me and I could stay in my bed even after the check out time so I could get more rest before we had to catch a bus. I am so glad we choose this place and I will never forget how pleasant and helpful everyone was.

We ended up staying in the owner's other hotel on the next street over, but went to Shwe Yo for breakfast which was delicious Burmese food. Our room was nice, although the shower didn't really have hot water. Owners and everyone working there were very friendly.

Shwe Yo Hostel has a special place in my heart after a few weeks in Myanmar. The location here is good, and the staff are spectacular. They are extraordinarily helpful in all manner of what you might need, whether it's your first time in Myanmar or if you're back in Yangon after a time away around the country. The owners are so friendly--they just love to shoot the breeze with the guests and hang out, and also answer any and all questions you might have: Burmese language, getting around, exchange rates, bus info, and even helpful hints and warnings about tourist "traps"!

Shwe Yo offers free tickets on the city train that goes in a loop around Yangon and into the country. This is a fun, chill afternoon and a great way to meet locals and see a whole lot you wouldn't otherwise. The owners also provide a wonderful home cooked meal for breakfast every morning -- they take great pride in it and for good reason! It's usually simple but quite satisfying.

Cleanliness is just fine--the rooms are well-maintained, and the bathroom has no issues. There isn't too much space--the hostel fills up very quickly and the common area is rather small--but honestly, this is more than made up for by the stellar workers, the icy A/C (!) and the breakfast.

Oh my. This hostel is the best. Cute and small but with the friendliest family as owners who take you out shopping, make delicious local breakfast to try and are just a pleasure to talk with!! We stayed in the top floor private double room and it was perfect! Enough space and very quiet. But you need to walk lots of stairs up and down :) the internet worked great as well!

I would stay here again for the breakfast alone! Shwe Yo Vintage Hostel was the best hostel I've stayed at in Myanmar. Clean rooms and bathrooms, lovely staff, good location, and a delicious Myanmar breakfast. I highly recommend!
