A sprawling hotel on a private island with a grand, high-ceilinged and breezy lobby that would have fit right in a Wes Anderson film. It probably was quite the grand dame and its heydays, but now its corridors and rooms are showing its vintage. That said, service staff are very earnest and helpful, and it's still a comfortable and clean hotel that still exudes some old world charm. While we're quite partial to the infinity pool at the (new) Victoria Cliff Hotel, the large pool overlooking the sea is commendable. There's a wading pool for tots too. Surprisingly, Grand Andaman has a good schedule of complimentary ferries back-and-forth mainland Kawthaung that operates till as late as 2am (though you'll be hard-pressed to find anything to do past dinner) and we were once pleasantly surprised to be arranged a separate speedboat with other hotel guests because the regular ferry was too crowded. The spa here is excellent for Thai massage (both price and therapeutic quality) but prices for aromatherapy message are too astronomical in comparison. Breakfast is serviceable and varied (Western and Thai) but dinner was dismal so we recommend dinner in Kawthaung instead. But we're really in two minds about the snorkeling day trips offered. Service is great, and the snorkelling sites we visited on this tour had better coral life than that of the trip arranged by Victoria's Cliff, but the latter has better infrastructure and food – if you're more fussy about overall comfort than slight differences in snorkelling quality, book yours with VC instead.

Clean, but dated, rooms. Helpful staff. Good traditional massage. Vastly overpriced aromatherapy massage. Very limited breakfast and dinner. And only Thai numbers for the hotel?!?! Bad for travellers coming from Burma side.

Good Hotel!!. Good Service. I was so happy when I went to Island with hotel arrangement boat.
