Had to change my spacious room as the first had a large lizard poo right on the bed. The room they gave me after that had NO view and hard as a rock twin beds. So much for my prepaid upgrade! So they don’t like if you complain. The rooms smell musky and I dreaded taking a shower. It is too bad as the location is pretty and a view from the tower makes the hotel tolerable. Food and service are only adequate and not five star resort quality. The Entertainment and lush grounds was what saved the rating from one star.

Food and drinks way too expensive for what the local farmers are being paid for, classic mark up. 40 dollars for Mongolian lamb chops? Go to a local restaurant, a good one at that, for ~10 dollars, better quality too!!

Massive great hotel complex spread over a large area, with all mod cons. Great poolside bar and restaurant with good views. Controversial viewing tower has great views as well as restaurant and bar, but a bit of a eye-sore in a historic area. Rooms and suites are very dark, with too little natural light.

Awful hotel and terrible experience !!
You get a vibe that the hotel is very old and not taken care of. You can tell that the bathrooms are not fully cleaned! There is a lot of zarro, towels don't smell good and the room is very old and sheets don't smell nice either.
Service is awfull and very unprofessional! They are always talking to themselves only and you need to ask for things 2-3 times. The food is bad and very expensive for a hotel with that low quality
The view is nice but I would rather visit Bagan for a day only if this is supposed to be the best in town!
The staff is always trying to make you spend more money in the car rides, wines, etc.

Overall this is by far the worst hotel we've slept in our honeymoon (and we have been in 9 so far) and maybe in my life.
I think it is really wrong that they have 5 stars because people get a bad idea and as soon as you're here, there is nothing else you can do (given that your stay has already been paid and your flights and rest of the trip planned).
If you still think it is worth staying in Aureum Palace you should know that it really is a 3 stars hotel and nothing close to 5!

This hotel almost made 4 stars due to its location! However, the 3 stars are due to the rooms being outdated and at night the locations of many of the rooms are dimly lit. You will feel that you are sleeping amongst fellow zombies. Of course, if you're in that kind of thing then it's a definite 5-star both for location and rooms!

The location and buildings of the hotel are stunning. The infinity pool has a unique view just not possible for other resorts due to the historic landmarks all round the hotel.

The rooms are large but extremely dark. The hotel needs to get more powerful lightbulbs.

My bed had 2 bugs in it so I asked to be changed rooms. The next room also had a dead mosquito under the covers. This should not be happening at a good resort such as this and I was disappointed.

The spa is lovely and the therapists good a their job. Ensure the therapists have rid the room of mosquitos before your massage or you will be bitten multiple times. The massage beds are normal beds with no hole so this affects the comfort of your neck.

After 1 hour waiting for my food, i got a bug in it. When i told the waiter, we just gave me a new plate, no sorry , no nothing. Just skip the restaurant.

Very nice hotel with great surroundings and beautiful infinity pool. Spacious room with wood decorations. Room is rather dark with not enough lighting and walls are quite thin so you can hear the next door noise easily (our next door residents had small children). Overall very good stay.

Newly built viewing tower that is over-priced to enter and looks very out of place. Not worth riding away from the pagoda clusters to see.

Location is GREAT and the pool area with temples views is to die for. The rest of the hotel (front desk staff, management, cleaning, professionalism, electric motorbikes rental price, airport transfer arrangement, bathroom update and amenities, bed, a/c and overall rooms) are guesthouse standards. If this hotel has not the pool area, I think it would probably be the WORST 5 stars hotel I've ever been at in my whole life. NOT RECOMMENDABLE but I think unfortunately there is no many other hotels to choose from in bagan at the moment.
