Free entrance, but needs more information in English as almost all is written in Latvian. It has a great exposition of the military history of Latvia, from the medieval knights to the current soldiers serving as blue helmets in the United Nations.

Fantastic museum covering the majority if not all of the history of Latvia's military and conflicts. So many things to see and read but definitely with taking to time to do.

Extremely interesting! A museum with multiple exponates on 5 floors, filled with photos, videos and weapons of all kind. And for free as well! A separate playroom for children.

Wonderful. Covers historic periods from Latvian birth through all wartime periods and the years between the two world wars. In that periods special exhibit was the submarine “Spidola”. My father was in France overseeing some of the mechanical aspects of the sub (in the mid ‘20’s.) And served as 1st officer until it’s loss in WW II.. that was truly an emotional moment seeing the sub and my father in the crew photo.

Very interesting museum especially the I WW showroom. Free entry and four floors of interesting exhibition. If one is interested of war and fighting or history then worth of visiting.

Awesome museum. About a quarter of the areas have English translation, I wish it was more but I understand. Even without the translation it was a very cool place. Lots of history there.

Expected time to enjoy the museum is 1-2 hours. It contains information about Latvian war history and efforts with the most focus on 1st and 2nd world wars. Has two cannons in lobby.

The museum has a lot of stuff, and is very big. We spent about two hours looking through everything, but still missed some stuff. The organization is somewhat confusing, and the explanations in English aren't the best (very thick binders filled with text and graphics explaining very specific details of Latvian military history, strategies etc). Would've been nice to have a guide, but there were only tours in Latvian available. Ah well, motivation to learn the language maybe :)

A really well thought out and creative museum. I think it's the best in Riga and best of all it's free! The displays are interesting and interactive. Would highly recommend.

Good museum. Goes through the hole Latvian war history. For some reason we had free admission which was nice. I gave this place only 4 stars because all the info was in Latvian. If you want to understand something you have to carry a book which is just plain annoyance.

Very big museum with rich history. Its good open facilitis and they have divided medivel times,ww1, ww2 and modern time very well.
The down sides are following, the choise of lamps makes it warm and lack of aircondition does not help. Not that many signs have english text and its abit sad not to know more about the items.response / report this review -

First off it's free,so why not? It has exhibits that span a thousand years, but WWI was the most extensive. For English speakers it is mostly easy, though some exhibits don't have English text. For Latvians it's all accessible. For others it requires a tour.

Военный музей будет интересен мальчишкам и людям, интересующимся историей. Вход бесплатный ;)
The museum is targeted at young boys and people interested in history.
Not all the information is available in English.
But overall most of the things are comprehensible, especially the XX century part (if you were born in the USSR).
The building (tower) is historic and very interesting itself.
If you have children don't miss the press machine by the entrance :)

The museum has several floor, with each floor representing a different time in Latvian history. As you go up, you progress through the time line from the 18th century all the way to present times. All the information is available in English next to its Latvian counterpart, so you won't feel like you're missing out.
Highly recommend going through this experience and learning about the history of Latvia.response / report this review -

It's in a beautiful historic building, and it has a lot of information about historical war weapons, as well as the military campaigns that happened through the years in the territory that's now Latvia. The cherry on top is that it's free so you can just quickly go through it if you need to, or you can just return another day if you get tired!

Supposedly the museum closes at 6pm and the last entrance is 15mim before that, but at 17h30 the ladies were closing all the doors and saying we must hurry and that we needed to leave fast. Even one of the ladies got out earlier than 5:45pm. This is a shame because the museum has a lot of interesting things to see and everyone was rushing us to leave quickly with no apparent reason. Shame
