Lovely place. The guide is very cheerful and also ready to give any explanation. After you have a brief tea information and get a taste of many different tea! They also have tea available for selling and I’d suggest you to leave a tip in their tea room box. As this attraction is free of charge and they do make a good effort to serve you.

Guidance was very informative and the hospitality was great. You can try many varieties of Ceylon Tea in here including virgin white tea becoming a tea taster for a while for free of charge. My tongue's most liked tea was Sapphire Oolong. You can buy the books authored by Mr. Herman and every varieties you tasted for 50% off for locals. The factory, equipped with Colonial era machineries is still used for tea manufacturing processes and remember to pay a visit to the the museum before leave. It was really nice to know this place.

Amazing place. For once a truly free tour where you get to go around and taste different tea. I would recommend you take a walk after the short tour aswel as the plantation has a lot more to offer in wildlife and views.

I had a great time wandering through the plantation with our guide Shirley. He was knowledgable when it came to all the plants as he was a botanist. He genuinely appeared to enjoy chatting about the medicinal qualities of the different flora found on the plantation and knew how to have a laugh.
The tea and cake up the top of the hill was pleasant (can't think of a better way to describe drinking tea Reminds me of afternoon tea at Grandmas) which we enjoyed before heading down to check out the processing plant.
We got a full tour of all the machinery that was up to 150 years old and very much still in operation (Shirley started them all up for us). The ladies were processing some black tea while we were there.
After the tour we ended up in the shop where you can try all the different teas (they'd all been brewed a little too long.. Was all a little bitter) and buy what ever you like. I had read from a few other people that they put the hard sell on you.. We didn't experience that at all. 3 groups came through while I was tasting all the teas and none of the guides seemed too bothered whether you bought anything at all. At the end of the day, if you want to buy the Virgin White Tea It's up to you. The video they play for you mentions that it is more expensive than silver by weight.!

Let's start with the positive. Very nice, clean and hospitable staff. The farm is a reminisces to the colonial times. After arriving you walk up a small hill for 150 meters, see a few tea plants, rubber tree and lemon grass.
At the top you will be served, free of charge a cup of tea and cake. Returning to the car park area you will visit the factory and afterwards the tea shop.
This is were the tourist trap shows it's ugly face. For every 5000 rupees you spend your guide gets 1000 cash. They will tell you it is fixed price when asking 6500 rupees (50 $ USD) for 50g of virgin white tea.
My recommendation is to go visit with no guide, buy the cheapest tea and be on your way. All the teas can be bought from major supermarkets in Colombo or Airport Duty Free.

Super nice tour with a very individual approach to each guest. The tour is free and unlike many other tea factories in Sri Lanka, you get to actually taste the tea you're encouraged to buy at the end of the trip. I didn't feel forced to buy anything though.
