Great place this is! There is a pool with an amazing view. Also the food is superb. There are many varieties of food and dessert as well. The boat ride was just FUN! There is this place where you need to go to the top by walking for a long distance and then you climb a ladder straight up like a coconut tree. There you can see many species of wild animals as well. There the view is AMAZING!One greatest thing that happened there was that while we were going, we saw a pearl. AN ACTUAL, REAL PEARL!!! The mother of Pearl was like shining so bright. So be on look for pearls there!!! Other than that the hotel rooms are good. The outdoor showers are like SUPERB. Really enjoyed the stay. Hope to come back here again!

Such a beautiful island in Trincomalee. We love the boat riding heading to Sober Island Resort and the resort was absolutely awesome. Staff were very positive and we had great hospitality there. Cuisine and beverages were very good and we had them enjoying the beauty of Sri Lanka. You can bring your kids, definitely they will enjoy the place. There is a swimming pool inside the premises where children also entertain. It's better to bring your swimming kits. Enjoy

This is a piece of heaven on earth for nature lovers! This 180-acre tropical island located inside Trincomalee natural harbour has a long history. It was used by colonial navies as a transit camp. Now, it belongs to Sri Lankan Navy where they have established a charming holiday resort.
The package includes boat ride in a fast craft to and from the island. The departure is from inside the Eastern Naval base of Sri Lanka ' a marvel by itself.
Inside this self contained island you get accommodation in spacious rooms located under the trees (also surrounded by trees). It's quite a good exercise to reach your room on this rocky and mountainous island - well paved paths are available. There's an all - glass gym, beautifully located swimming pool, top -floor restaurant overlooking the harbour (sea is more than 100m below you), Tennis court, Basketball court, Volleyball court etc. There are two breathtaking beaches on either side of the island. To reach one of the beaches one has to take a fairly long stroll in not so forgiving terrain. The other beach is close to the resort and has a relatively easy path.
There are numerous birds and some butterflies (also dragonflies) that you can get a glimpse at. Photographing them is not too difficult as jungle is not too dark in most places. Though there are some Deer spottings I didn't get a chance to see them. A few huge pythons and other snakes are known to inhabit the island. I was lucky to see three full size Porcupines at dusk. You can see numerous beautiful fish near the pier. Sea urchins are common, too. Beware of poisonous Jellyfish, during certain seasons. Also, beware of a huge Estuarine Crocodile that was spotted many times by the sailors close to the beach.
You can climb up to the peak of the island where there's an observation tower. You can see the whole of Trincomalee from there. Remember some landmarks on your way so that you won't get lost as you (especially if you are alone) climb down among the trees. I almost got lost!
Just relaxing and being with nature for 3 or 4 days here would be wonderful for a nature lover. Food doesn't have much variety. It can be a problem for long staying guests. If you feel bored you can take the boat (scheduled rides a few times a day) to the Navy base (where you can park your vehicle) and take land transport to the city or to the numerous attractions in the vicinity, including a few good restaurants. You can get a trishaw or a taxi if you don't come in your own vehicle.
Lastly, I think this is a place grossly underutilized by the tourists going by what the place has to offer them.

We went there just for a lunch. Food was good. Staff is very friendly.
We climbed the tower which was located in the highest point of the island. You can enjoy a really nice view of Trincomalee Bay.

Great calm place to stay at vacation. Sri Lanka Navy preserve the place and well maintained by SL Navy people. Foods are great. There are various selection of foods available.

Good for a family to spend a vacation. Boat charge will be free if there about 10 people.
Food at a reasonable price.
