If you are planning on going to visit the Dehiwala Zoo, here are a few points according to my opinion, that might be helpful to you,

    1. you need a whole day if you want to have the full experience of the zoo. they do offer buggy carts for families which you can rent too if you would rather have a a quick and more convenient look around.
    2. there are a few small shops inside with drinks and snacks and even a restaurant in the center of it. but you may want to take a bottle of water for your sake.
3.the zoo is now open for night time visitors ( which i find cruel as then the animals have no quiet time) on Friday Saturday and Sunday from 7 pm to 10 pm.

One of the best Zoo. So natural. Some of the birds are not in cage, but they are there. Seeing the zoo during Rain is a outstanding movement in our life. we could see most of the animal, very near. even we can feed to 5 colored parrot. I have added lot of photos. Come and see and enjoy.

If you are nature lover this is a good place to have a relaxing walk. The Garden is situated in the Dry Zone of the country, the temperature in day time could be painful, with higher humidity. It is recommended to visit the botanical garden either in morning, between 8-10 a.m or in the evening after 3.30 or 4. The last entry to the park is before 5.00 p.m., but those who are already entered could stay till 5.45 p.m.

Good place. But should make more accessible to wheel chair. And move direction signs could be better. Staff should be trained more in sales. (At the end of the round we came to know about availability of buggies. If we were told at entrance about that service we would have taken it).

I love the selection of plants but wish they had more signage regarding the plants. Last time i was here was 10 year's ago.so much has changed. Good improvements. Still some of the a animals cages need upgrading. Worth going with kids. Will be slugged extra to visit because you are a foreigner.

Its good for a day out or to take your kids. But the space is not enough. The walkways are paved. There is a restaurants inside which sells food and drinks. They have a night time show also but on selected days of the week (Friday, Saturday )

First off, the last time I visited the zoo was 2011 or so and I thoroughly regret it.

This place needs to stop. It needs to be shut down and all the animals need to be taken care of properly.

I highly recommend NOT going here. Especially if you're a tourist because Colombo has many great things to offer and this place is definitely not one of them!!

Parking area is not sufficient. Wheelchair / go cart accessible. On demand shuttle service within premises available. Food, beverages, drinking water, lavatories available. Clean and neat restaurant is there.

Good collection of animals there. Shold and can be further improved. Elephant dancing is attractive.

Most of the animals are old or missing in the cages. Place is not clean. So much work to be done. But the entrance ticket is very cheap as 100 for adults and around 50 for children.

Good variety of exhibits. Show timings and location should be displayed at the entrance so that visitors can plan their route. Shows could have been conducted better and Host's viewer engagement is poor. Nevertheless, elephant show in Arina 2 at 4:30pm is the highlight and nobody should miss it.

I don't wanna be negative, because when I visited it was a hot day. So I didn't really enjoy it not stay for a long time.
I might visit later when the weather is a bit cooler.
It was hot so I only took a picture of the giraffe :) enjoy

Refurbished zoo is quite okay. Large space for tigers with a glass wall is a perfect move. lots of new attractions are there including a top class restaurant (little bit expensive though) and a high standard toilet. Still some construction work is ongoing.

Situated about 10km away from the heart of Colombo city, this is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Asia. This zoo has a good diversity and a substantial collection of worldwide animals. It has a dense tree coverage with well landscaped gardens, arched bridges where you can walk over with animal enclosure, etc. The zoo hosts elephant performance sessions according to a predefined timetable. If you have young children, I recommend you take them to see this.

    Improvement suggestions:
    1. Improve the overall cleanliness a little bit more.
    2. Cages for some large animals such as elephants and rhinos could be made a little bigger.
