  Have used Malkey almost every year for a few years- generally cars are in good order and if there is a problem they will fix it for you promptly. Apart from bungling the record keeping of my payments and behaving badly one time, they are a good company to deal with certainly better than the rest of the industry!

  We wanted to rent a car in Sri Lanka to be fully flexible and to have peace of mind regarding transport. We have chosen for Malkey Rental Cars, because of some good reviews and good price. Now at the end of the tour we are sorry we did chose them. Why?
  
  - We have provided our route to get a quote. As local company we were expecting good eye on the country. At the end of our tour we had to pay excess mileage (240km!), that was not calculated in their (Google maps!) route simulation. This while we did not went 1km off our planned route.
  
  - Our driver was a nightmare. In general, his lack on knowledge of English language caused lot of times confusion and frustration on both sides.
  
  But the biggest problem was the driver's attitude: we had a strong feeling that he really does not like his job. Also he had no idea ho to treat customers: at certain moment he was complaining to us, why we want to go to shops in Kandy, why we can't go tomorrow as he still needs to look for a place (it was 5:30pm and he was on the road since noon that day, so within his 8h limit), why were we so long visiting a museum etc...
  
  In Nuwara Eliya, or hotel was on top of the hill with a narrow road. We only could hear his unsatisfaction with a question: Why did you choose this place. Well, we were expecting experienced driver, otherwise we would have drive ourselves.
  
  Also the discretion was not perfect: when we have arrived in spa and were choosing a treatment, he literraly came stand to us a keep eye on us. This was also case in few restaurants. Also at our last day he came to our hotelroom to check where we are (not to collect the luggage).
  
  So if you ask me, just DON'T use services of this company and rather book a local driver with a car (cheaper and widely available) for a good memory of Sri Lanka!

  Thus review is for a rental back in 2012. We rented a Nissan for a week and also requested a car seat for our toddler. The car seat that was initially offered was not in good condition. I called and complained about the car seat and they were very apologetic. They said I could choose any new seat and that they would pay for it. I went and picked up the seat that I liked and they deducted the amount from my fee.
  
  It is much easier to offer great customer service when there are no issues. It takes maturity to take care of a customer that is calling with complaint. Malkey had that maturity and that's five star service in my book.

  The overall experience was good and they also helped us out in getting the local driving permit. The official charge is 1000 lkr but they charge 2500 lkr which includes sending a driver along to assist you at the rmv. The car rental price is reasonable but the free kms is limited to 80km per day while most others give 100km. Also the excess km charges are exhobhirantly expensive and more than the rental (I.e. if you drive 80kms more then its slightly cheaper to rent for an extra day). The car itself was well maintained and clean this was the main concern as lot of people had negative reviews about the condition of the vehicles in Sri Lanka.
