This is a very beautiful and peaceful shrine in Kataragama. I visited this place of worship at approx 6 am on Poya day in August 2019. I watched the elephants worshiping and fed the with fruits.

The Pagoda is enormous in size and takes few minutes for a walk around. Very nice to hang around with devotees in white dresses. You get a mesmerized feeling. Good if you take few flowers sold on the way and submit at the base of Pagoda. Peace of mind is achieved amidst the crowd, and that is the specialty of the place.

Please be mindful of dressing as this is sacred place. Should not wear shorts, too tight and colorful cloths. Preferably white cloths are best for this place if not any light color will go.
Good parking space available and please keep the place clean. Use the dustbins around.

The most sacred place for buddhists to visit in Kataragama. Kataragama devalaya is situated next to this. Best to visit early in the morning or in the evening after sunset. The place is crowded in poya days and holidays. But, this place too is relaxing and pleasent to mind.

Situated within Katharagama sanctuary, Kiri Wehera is a famous pogodas in southern part of the country. Thousands of Buddhists visit the pagoda everyday to worship. There's a long path along which you can walk and sellers will try and sell flowers, oil and other stuff on your way. Road is almost crowded but it is a must have experience to visit this place.

This stupa probably dates back to the 6th century BC and is believed to be built by King Mahasena, a regional ruler of Kataragama area. One of the most popular Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the country, Kiri Vehera is among the Solosmasthana, the 16 most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites of ancient Sri Lanka. This stupa which is 95 ft. in height with a circumference of 280 ft. is located 800 m North to the famous Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya. Venerable Kobawaka Dhamminda Thera is the present Chief Prelate of Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya.

It’s very nice temple Call Kiri Vehera, this temple is such a beautiful, there are devotees from all over the country side visiting this holy temple everyday, I have been this place two times and like to visit more, when we walk from Katharagama Maha Devalaya there are girls selling flowers on both the side of the road you can buy flowers from them take Temple for worshiping

It's a really great scenery at night with bright white lights illuminating the stupa and it can be recommended to visit it at night. It's a usual occurrence to see different poojas performed by people coming from various parts of the island. There is a car park adjacent to the temple as well as it is connected to the dewalaya through a straight path.

This is a very famous Stupa in Sri Lanka. It should worth the visit. We went there by walk from Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya. The view of the Stupa from this path was fascinating. The stalls with flowers, other things needed for worshiping and some ornaments are also situated along this sandy path. Usually, its crowded here, specially in Sri Lankan holidays. Because of that, it's not much calm around Stupa, but you can become very calm from your inside just by seeing this Stupa and worshiping sitting on the floor around.

Kiriwehera is one of the major statues in Sri Lanka and it is considered as a very religious place! You will see lot of ladies offering flowers for few rupees along the pathway to the temple and it is actually a pleasant sight! Visit this place during the morning or evening to avoid burning hot sunshine and high temperature!
