Long way with steps and a buddhist worshiping place above from sea level with cold wind
It’s so lovely to climb steps. We went through the steps and came down by a Double Cab. It’s a nice path.!!!
A beautiful place unfortunately overshadowed by the heaps of rubbish left there by local tourists.
It's a steep climb of about 2500 steps, allow plenty of time to get up there by sunrise. The views from the top are stunning.
One of my favorite place. You will feel relax once u reach top.
Great place of worship to visit. For full experience, visit at the time of the devala procession. Pretty good hike to the top too (watch out for monkeys). You can also travel by vehicle.
Wedasitikanda An ancient place' is located near the Kataragama city. There are also vehicles to go to the top of the hill.
A devotional realm where you feel the presence of God Murugan, in each step you take. Quite a climb, but the journey is exhilarating ends with satisfaction.
Wedihiti Kanda (Wedahiti Kanda) is a rocky mountain located about 3.5 km from the famous Kataragama Devalaya. Except for Kataragama Devalaya and Sella Kataragama, Wedihiti Kanda is one of the most popular destination for the pilgrims to Kataragama.
It is said that the prince Dutugemunu made a wow to the Deity Kataragama to make a grandeur devale once he wins over the invador Elara who was ruling from Anuradhapura. After the war, the king came to Kataragama and on his way met the Daity Kataragama at the top of the Wadihiti Kanda.
According to history documents it is said to be the place where deity Katharagama stayed and where King Dutugamunu met him. Legend has it that the king inquired from deity where he should build a new temple for him. Then he took the bow and arrow and shot it. Where it lande he built the shrine, where now we call Katharagama maha Devalaya (කතරගම මහා දේවාලය). This is a place of worship and a climb of around 3.5km. Leave nothing but your footprint.
Great place. Beware from monkeys. Nice view from the mountain. Transport facility also available.
best place to visit while your travel to katharagamaand yala safari great views from top of the mountain

Wedihiti Kanda (Wedahiti Kanda) is a rocky mountain located about 3.5 km from the famous Kataragama Devalaya. Except for Kataragama Devalaya and Sella Kataragama, Wedihiti Kanda is one of the most popular destination for the pilgrims to Kataragama
Although not much of its history is known, this mountain is buried deep in folklore all connected to deity of Kataragama.
The king inquired where he would like the new shrine to be built. He then took the bow and a arrow and asked that the shrine to built on the place the arrow falls and shot a arrow to the air. The arrow fell on the ground where the Kataragama Devalaya lies today where the first devalaya was built by King Dutugemunu.
Some legends consider the Katragama Deviyo (deity) as the powerful regional warrior king Mahasena who ruled the area when the Buddha made his 3rd visit to Sri Lanka in the 8th year of his enlightenment ( 580 BC) . This warrior king took to Buddhism after meeting the Buddha and was elevated to a deity by the community after his death.
It is also believed that King Mahasena retreated to the Wedahiti Kanda mountain top at old age after handing over the throne to this eldest son. He lived a life of a hemit meditating at the top of this mountain.
Even today, there are remains of a ancient shrine at the top. But newer shrine rooms has come up and antiquity of this mountain has totally disappeared. Still, the climb to top of this mountain is a unique spiritual experience and even for a non believer, the panoramic view and the peaceful atmosphere from the top will make the climb worthwhile Please enough to like this review

Such a nice place.4km away from Katharagama. Now there is a Cab service from bottom to top. Its a great service. There is a beautiful historical story attached to this place. People believe once upon a time " God katharagama " is used to live this place.
There is a paved access road for vehicles but advised to go on foot to enjoy the scenery. Best time is in the early morning.
It's a multi-religious place. There is a Hindu Temple as well
You have to park your vehicle at the car park and go by a truck up to the hill (Rs.350/- per person- local rate). The vehicles won't go up after 5 p.m.
You can also walk up the hill but then you won't be allowed to go up after 4 p.m.
