  Galkadawala Wewa (Lake) is a part of the ancient irrigation system that sustained the Dry Zone civilization of Sri Lanka. For example, Anurdhapura, Polonnaruwa, and many other kingdoms.
  
  It is the lifeblood of the village of Galkadawala. Also The Lake and its surroundings are home to many birds , mammals and reptiles. 133 birds and 50 butterflies , are already recorded.
  
  Kayaking in the lake, and walks in the surrounding jungles and marsh is a pleasant experience.
