Le Vat Choum Khong (1843 et rénové en 1933, 1951, 1963 et 2002)
Nom : Monastère du point central du gong.
Il a été fondé par Phakhu Keo en 1843, sous le règne du roi Sukaseum (1836-1851). Il figure parmi les temples les plus fleuris de Luang Prabang. Situé en plein centre de la péninsule, là où se concentrent les activités commerciales et touristiques de la ville, il jouit pourtant d’un grand calme. On peut visiter le jardin abritant quelques statues récentes de Bouddha dans les nombreuses positions traditionnelles. Les bâtiments ont été nouvellement rénovés. 2 statues en pierre encadrent les escaliers menant au Vihan. D’inspiration Chinoise, elles furent présentées au roi Chantharath (1850-1872) par l’ambassadeur chinois de Kunming, lors de sa visite à Luang Phabang. Reflétant les éléments du yin et du yang, les statues représentent deux des principaux bodhisattvas du bouddhisme chinois : Vajra, la foudre ou un coup de tonnerre, représentant les principes masculins, et Ghanta représentant la cloche, ou les principes féminins.

Name: Monastery of the central point of the gong.
It was founded by Phakhu Keo in 1843, during the reign of King Sukaseum (1836-1851). It is among the most ornate temples of Luang Prabang. Located in the center of the peninsula, where trade and tourism in the city are concentrated, yet it enjoys a great calm. The garden with some recent statues of Buddha in numerous traditional positions can be visited. The buildings have been newly renovated. 2 stone statues flank the stairs to Vihan. On Chinese inspiration, they were presented to Chantharath King (1850-1872) by the Chinese ambassador of Kunming, during his visit to Luang Phabang. Reflecting the elements of yin and yang, the statues represent two major Bodhisattvas of Chinese Buddhism: Vajra, lightning or thunder, representing the male principle, and Ghanta representing the bell, or feminine principles.
